I agree, he isn’t the best coach. He just gets the best transfers that are old and using their last year of eligibility.

He is extremely good at coaching the mile, why not lean into your strength and build around it?
Also recruiting is part of coaching and people need to accept that as part of the sport. If you want a coach to only get 4:14 guys and win it isn’t going to happen

If they would recruit at any other event as well they would have a shot at Nationals. They were in a close 3rd place after the 1500, then fell off the map because they only scored 2 points after that.

Is you are 10.1 sprinter in HS, you’re not signing to train in Washington.

I think they will be top three in the program of the year award combining cross indoor and outdoor.
probably Arkansas them and Texas. Ran into some bad luck as well. 800 guy DQ’d and they saved their stud to be fresh in the 5k (beat the NCAA champ at conference in the 10k) but he didn’t handle the heat well.

Of course not, but put together a few 10.5-10.6 guys and you have some relays.

Saying Powell is the greatest mile coach ever is obviously hyperbole but there's no doubt he's one of the best middle distance/distance coaches as evidenced by his record at Washington and before that at Oregon.

Powell is good but severely overrated. He SACRIFICES cross country to have mile/1500 success.
UW lost to in-state Gonzaga in cross country this year. Gonzaga has 1/10th the scholarships and is 1/10th the size.
If Powell was such a great mile coach, his milers wouldn't be so bad at cross country.
