Get on the phone and have a speaking conversation with him and quit texting. You might get to the bottom of it and get your girl in! I wouldn't of said, .."I don't understand the friction". He was sighting concerns. Friction is when you are arguing. Call him up and discuss.
The context here makes little sense. I’m assuming you’re talking about a qualifier to a sectional championship meet, or whatever equivalent that would be in your state? (I’m from NY)… you can’t qualify to state on a “last chance” meet.
What state hasn’t yet done their sectional championships yet? This seems fabricated.
Maybe it's because I didn't read through all of this but how did it end? It doesn't really sound overly contentious and reads like it's still up in the air which event she should run. Let the athlete decide. Have them run both. It really doesn't seem like a big deal or a situation where someone needs to be mad.
If it is bad, I'm guessing there are underlying issues/tension that we don't know about.
This is why I think we should get rid of high school track (and college track too for that matter) and adopt the British Club System. That way, people can run whatever the hell they want to run and don't have to worry about what the Coach thinks.
If this "last chance meet" (which I'm assuming has already happened by now) is as described, it's a chance for people to run one last track meet. The runners, not the coaches, should get to decide what they want to run in such meets. Does a hundred meter hurdler want to try the 3000? Let them. Does a two miler want to try the long jump? Let them. The only event I can see you restricting (if they even have it at this meet) is the pole vault because that can be dangerous. But the rest of it, let the kids find the events they enjoy. Let them try new things. And don't suggest things to them.
I remember when I was in high school, the last meet for a lot of runners was small tri meet. One kid really loved the 800 and wanted to run the 4x800, but they only had 3 people signed up on the team. The distance coach wasn't at that meet, and the sprint coach didn't care, he was like, "anybody want to run on this relay?" The assistant distance coach was like, "Are you sure? It might mess up your two mile." I signed up and ran the leadoff leg of the 4x8 so this kid could run, and set his PR with his Dad, who worked near the school hosting the event, watching. I ran what remains my two mile PR a few minutes later.
Basically the sprint coach, who was the head coach of the team, had the right attitude--whether we won that meet or not didn't matter. That meet was about trusting kids to find the things they enjoyed, and he figured success would follow after that. Not a coincidence: that team finished third in the three team tri meet, but we won the State Championship.

well, even new york has a super qualifying standard for auto to states. if last chance meet is b4 state Qualifier, thar makes sense. otherwise...
Maybe I'm old school but texting is for things like "get milk". A discussion like this is best served face to face, or at least a phone call. Too much left to interpret otherwise.
yea, you are bad at tallying. The weird part...is almost all the people who sided with HC either didn't answer the actual question or wrote a 5 word prikish answers. Which kind of tells you something about the HC siders.
OP should off ramp text after first s/o bad communication, HC should just not be a jerk. The HC can, at a minimum, have an opinion, but just not be a jerk-of.
It's pretty clear, look at all the comments and votes on page one (before losers like you weighed in).
OP is a huge smelly assh0le.
Yea...there are more pages francis. Chillingly ironic, that all the people who think the OP is a jerk, are the ones name calling, and being aggressive and short. So...think about that for a sec? Birds a feather.
OHHHH god! Wait I didnt consider blocks! What if she has never used blocks? How will she run a HS 400!
Like you said, its a "last chance" invite. Best time to try something new and its not like she's trying long jump. 800 runner doing a 4 is not outlandish. If the HC is concerned about the feelings of a substandard 400 runner being hurt by the 800 beast one-uppping her, I feel sorry for him or her. Dont these meets usually keep no score and have generous entry limits??? HC needs leadership skills. Shouldn't be having a text fight. That's for 14 year olds.
I feel like you’ve been the victim of an identity theft scam
This is bizarre reasoning that the HC gives for not wanting her in the 400. If she wants to do it and has a chance at possibly making qualifying in it, why not let her try it? I'm on your side. HC is being weird and kinda an ass about this.
