Well, when I had Covid, I felt miserable for a few days and my workouts sucked for a week or so. Then I returned to normal. I certainly could have danced and celebrated my friend's successes on the track though. I would not have wanted to race an 800m though.
Is this peak Letsrun hatred? An entire thread devoted to hate to Athing Mu because she was having fun in the stands at a meet? Seriously? People need to go take a look in the mirror and see if this is really what they want to spend their time on. Wow. The hatred never ends, does it?
The dancing was fine but Ato Boldon should have referred to the fact that Mu and McLaughlin are losing support among devoted track fans because of how seldom they race. It was perfect opportunity to emphasize that after Mu was seen dancing in the stands at a meet she had originally entered. He could have tied it in with Sydney similarly watching Monaco from the stands after bailing late.
That's why you need someone in the booth who doesn't have a lifelong connection to the sport. They aren't afraid to tackle the uncomfortable topics. It happens on the NBC horse racing coverage with Ahmed Fareed. He's not in any jeopardy of backlash within the industry so he takes on issues like all the recent horse deaths at Churchill and elsewhere.
On a side note, Lewis Johnson nailed this interview by asking "Is this what practice is like every day?"
Johnson has improved his interviewing skills greatly. It is really hard to come up with good questions in a short interview format like they have him do, but he has been on fire in the ones I have seen lately. His interview with Ryan Crouser after the shot put world record was also excellent.
Mu may never race again! Three times a COVID "sufferer", maybe she's a "long holler" equivalent of a "super responder"? How can say what "permanent damage" has been done by these infections, re-infections, and re-re-infection. Thank G-D she was "boosted!"
Any friendly wagers on when Mu will catch her fourth case of COVID?
Hint: it will almost certainly be before a big meet she doesn't care to race. #DanceDaceDakotaDance
I agree that people find the weirdest things to be angry about. If an NBA star has a sore hamstring, they get rested. AND they can still sit on the bench and celebrate when their team does well. That includes cute dances, throwing three-fingers in the air, whooping it up. A sore hamstring (or week-old Covid) doesn't prevent celebrating for your friends.
Mu is great and will race when she wants to. Nobody on earth cares about the LA Grand Prix. I think skipping it will be forgotten if she wins Worlds. If not, then we can say this was part of the evidence that the season was not a good one. We'll have to wait and see.
Yes, peak hatred and peak insanity. With a side of jealousy. I swear I never saw this coming. Years of posters whining on LR about US middle distance runners not being competitive on the world stage. I thought everyone would be thrilled to have a bright new star like Mu who just freaking WINS. I guessed wrong apparently.
If you mean empathy for Mu's (third bout of) Covid, I don't believe a word of it. I predict she will run US trials and worlds and then disappear again. I like Keely but I'm also rooting for Mary Moraa. She did a dance last night, did you see it? Difference is she earned it.
So Athing Mu has won two Olympic gold medals and a WC gold medal. All by the age of 21. She has always been a class act whether she was representing her track club, Texas A&M, or Team USA. An incredible role model. Even if she quit the sport today she has earned the right to do whatever the **** she wants to do. No permission from random people on the internet needed.
Actually she is working for Nike to help them sell T-shirts and trainers. I expect if she quit today she would have to settle with Nike in some way but not my area. If she had settled her contract with Nike then yes who cares what she does.
But no she is not a 'class act' or a role model. She lost that when she dropped out of a mile race with one indoor lap to go rather than end her winning streak. Class acts are many in the sport. I used to not care for Ajee much but since Mu arrived on the scene I have come to appreciate Ajee's attitude to racing a lot more. Plenty of people manage to race and entertain us AND win gold medals (or like Laura Muir lose gallantly!).

After she won in Tokyo and became a breakout USA star I predicted that she would become this message board's most despicable person. The next Mary Decker better look like Mary Decker damnit.

I wish you were wrong about that, but from the wording and overall tone of the comments I have seen, and not just in this thread, I think you are right.

Wow, you came to that conclusion over one race. Ignoring everything else she has accomplished (and it’s a lot). Very hard to please. I guess you preferred Ajee’s attitude toward the old tainted meat excuse. Hey, at least it wasn’t a burrito. Here’s a thought, nobody’s perfect.

1000%. Her slavish fraud "fans" here only do her and the sport a disservice but pretending her post-medals "career" (in what?) has been anything inspiring or exemplary.
She won the genetic lottery, worked reasonable hard a few years and that it-- FINE, get off the stage, Athing, and take the suckers (and Max Siegel) with you.

please. And if you take COVID seriously, Mu's faking it THREE TIMES should be an insult to your precious "plague" scars. #StillMasking #Paxlovid #GetBoosted
Racers race, period, and have some respect for the sport and their fans, jowever misguided, and without whom...

Rupp was DNS or DNF in half of the Diamond League races he entered (and others -- remember the sesamoid?), and seemed to keep his contract.
And unlike Rupp, Mu has actually won major international races. (Which Rupp never did, even once.)
