Not really odd, she did the same thing more or less after the JDL dmr. She told David Monti that 5k was a workout.
You miss my point
I get it, but to me it just looked more like she slowed way down on the penultimate lap and then didn't have a response to Koko and Piccirillo the last 200m... I suppose it is possible she conserved intentionally on the penultimate lap but no one could really know because there are no interviews.
As to why she was still able to do a 5k 'workout' 30 minutes later, I would just chalk it up to being stronger in general and a good sign, as other poster said.

Well that is my point, I think no matter how you slice it is she much stronger than a year ago. Now able to run 15:50 30 minutes after fast 1500 vs 1:40 after so either she is capable of faster 1500, faster 5000 (which we know) or both.
I always give a new unregistered username so much credibility....
2:08? really? The official result show her at 47.75 at 300, 1:52.99 at 700 (65 for lap), 3:00.69 at 1100 (67.7 lap), and 4:08.29 (67.6 lap). So in your well informed opinion which you state as fact she accellerated from 65 400 pace to 60 400 pace between 700 and 800 and then slowed to 70.5 pace from 800 to 1100 and then reaccellerated on her last lap when you say she was "locking up". Looking at the video and the elapsed times do not show that.
She did not show any signs to me of real strain at the end - her face, her arms, no hunch over after finish, etc. Nothing resembling other races wehere she used every bit. She finshed, walked to Koko without stopping, and then to Angel and then slowly walked off the track as I recall.
On the 30 minutes I cannot find a document that shows actual times for the 5000 heats. I recall that the fast 5000 heat was supposed to directly follow the invitational 1500, but after the streaming ended I also recall that the 2nd W 5000 and slow M 5000 heats went before the fast 5000 (thinking well she is getting some rest). So that is my nominal 30 minutes. maybe really 35-40 minutes. But if you have a document that shows 1 hour, put up or shut up.
It was over an hour between Tuohy’s 1500 and 5k at Wake Forest. Why do you keep saying 30min?
I looked around as many places I could find, found a schedule dated 2 days ahead of the meet, and it does now seem the final schedule of the meet had a M 1500 heat and both M and F 5000 heats in between the 1500 Invite and 5000 Invite so that would bring the start time difference very close to 1 hour as you say. I must have been going on an earlier schedule, but it looks like you are right, and I was wrong on the 30 minutes.
Someone please explain to me why Whittaker is not running the 800m
whittaker beat the NCAA mile champion at Mt. Sac by nearly 1 second. She's probably in 4:05 shape or faster, she just hasn't run it recently. She destroys Tanaka every time they race each other and Tanaka has run 4:09.
Smart by Stanford to keep her hidden, Tuohy won't be expecting it. Tuohy would need to run a 62 second 1st lap to beat Whittaker in a 1500. She won't outkick whittaker.
or maybe she really wasn't in 4:05 shape. Maybe the result yesterday was just a bad day as well, but not 11 seconds bad.
Anyone know when heat sheets for the championships will be up?

You think that Tuohy has no clue that Whittaker recently outkicked the national indoor mile champ? Give me a break!
They don't see her workouts. Whittaker hasn't run a 1500 since that race more than a month ago. There is no way for Tuohy to know if Whittaker is in 4:12 shape, 4:07 shape, or 4:02 shape because Whittaker hasn't shown her cards.
Tuohy's last lap in her 4:08 was a 67. Whittaker finished her 4:12 with a 62 last 400 going 32 then 30 last 200.
Well, Whittaker, Tanaka (& Dudek) have shown their cards now. Perhaps you could post the video of the workouts now on you tube.
Actually, I would have preferred all 3 making their finals, especially Whittaker and Tanaka for more speed and drama. Losing that 52 speed removes a real threat though. Good luck to these ladies at usatf and in 4 x 400.
Schein-Becker (4:10 2:02) is another speedy contender knocked out. She didn't look sharp in round 1, and it carried over to round 2.
