so you're saying a conference with a massive TV deal plus endowments and boosters kicking in billions to the athletic program is somehow able to attract a more talented field of athletes over a smaller conference with less financial resources?
wow, what a take! you should get a Nobel Prize in economics.
The guy who came 12th has a 3:54 PB and has never broken 4:20 for the mile. I believe that his 1600m PB last year was 4:32. Who knew that you could walk-on with a 4:32PB
He beat Nico Young...who has a PB of 3:37 to win the 1500m...
Then he beat Lorenz Herrman...who has a PB of 1:46 to win the 800m....
Both those guys would likely have won Pac 12's this year in those events. D2 quality?
Sahlman's talent is unreal.
The guy who came 6th has a 3:53 PB
The guy who came 5th has a 3:49 PB
The guy who came 7th has a 3:49 PB
The guy who came 10th has a 3:55 PB

Id bet money those 5 guys would wash Cal in XC so def better than bottom of the barrel pac12 distance running
No, it’s intellectually dishonest to hold up the success of one team as an indication of the strength of a conference.
No, you said it was "D2 quality" which is completely false and insane to say.
You’re right, I was wrong. The Big Sky conference is not D2 quality at all. It’s much worse! To reduce the effects of outliers let’s compare the top times for the 3rd place men at the Big Sky championships (actual times for 100-400, PR for 800 and higher) with the third best D2 times this year:
100- Big Sky (BS) 10.48, D2 10.09
200- BS 20.94, D2 20.59
400- BS 46.90, D2 46.00
800- BS 1:49.99, D2 1:46.95
1500- BS 3:39.15, D2 3:41.84
5000- BS 13:36.99, D2 13:36.51
Big Sky is significantly worse than D2 from 100-800 and it’s on par with D2 for 1500 and 5000.
Misleading post. The men’s winner for 100 and 200 was one guy named David Dunlap who runs for NAU! Second place was 10.42 and 20.94. Outside of NAU the conference is D2 quality or worse.
You’re comparing a conference of 10 teams, from a single competition on a bad weather day, to an entire division throughout a season of meets, who gets some really talented athletes? You must not have taken debate in high school haha. Yes, the Big Sky might not beat the entire D2 in every event, but they’re too good to be D2.
I know you’re trolling and unabashedly embarrassing yourself to get reactions, but just for fun, I thought I’d add that Duncan Hamilton is leading the nation in the steeple by almost 4 seconds… and recently received Bowerman votes. Big Sky isn’t a Power 5, but it’s a really good XC/track conference. Who from the Big Sky hurt you bro?

Point taken regarding the weather. I used personal best times for the distance runners so I should have done the same for the sprinters. If they were running into a strong headwind that would explain their slow times.
I just took another look. Guys, it’s worse than I thought. At the Big Sky championships the sprinters had the benefit of a 3.0 TAILwind!! I couldn’t make this up if I tried. Here are the personal best times for your Big Sky third place sprinters:
100-Jemini Archer 10.75
200-Kyle Smith 21.51
400-Liam Bracken 46.90 (his run at the championships bettered his previous best of 47.40)
I’ve seen better 100 and 200 times at high school meets! You still want to try to argue that the conference overall and beyond NAU is D1 quality?
