I think she was freaking out because she walked back into the race and wasn't sure if she'd be DQed.

They seemed fine after the race from what I could tell. Hugs, walking together across the infield, talking to Henes, etc.

Chelsea didn’t lead the first few laps of the race. She was back in the pack with all the other NCS runners. She took the lead in the last mile which is an appropriate tactic for a stronger runner with less closing speed. Amaris closed hard in the last 200, also an appropriate tactic. Maybe Amaris should be pissed because Chelsea tried to pull away with 800 to go? Is that also against your teammate rules?

.. but the "former Alabama runner" does have a linkage to the Pack that pre-dates the "established member"... her father went to and graduated from NC State so in some respects that makes her a "legacy student".... (wink, wink)

This is the only correct answer.

Amaris should be DISQUALIFIED for 2 reasons:

1. She clearly obstructed those two athletes she walked into

2. She rolled her jersey up and had her stomach exposed. It seems petty but the NCAA has clear uniform rules. On a hot day, rolling the jersey up (illegally) could give her a distinct advantage allowing her to stay cooler than her competitors who were following the rules. If she does that at NCAAs she would be instantly disqualified.

On #2, did she roll it up during the race, or just afterwards? If afterwards, then how would that have given her a competitive advantage during the race?

On #1, similarly that was after her race had been completed. Now granted that could have impacted those she'd lapped.

Nonetheless, the period for coaches or runners to raise a protest passed and the race officials didn't flag it either real time - so retroactively bringing it up (either of these up) is moot

she finished her race but other people hadn't. imagine if Amaris was obstructed in her 5k by someone who had just finished the race prior. you would be outraged.

yes, I thought it was just bad etiquette. i think Kelsey burned herself out to drop the Notre Dame runner. now if the Notre Dame runner was still there I can understand Amaris's kick, but it was just the 2 NC State runners, nobody else.

though after watching it a few times Kelsey was clearly laboring while Amaris seemed to have a second wind, and once you start your kick you just go. again, maybe I'm overthinking it.

it reminded me of the Big Sky XC Championships a few years back when Nico Young was leading and kinda slowed during the kick, allowing Drew Bosley to catch up. They ran side by side over the finish line, fist bumped, but Drew made absolutely certain Nico crossed the line first.
