I was assuming from the headline that this had something to do with the fastest mile while playing poker or the like. Good luck to them. If Centro pulls this off, maybe he will be in the mix for the team again this year.
I don't really disagree much. I'm not sure how many people are aware of such an event....but I can one-up you in the insignificance battle. Everyone goes on and on about Newbury Park. Even more so a year or year-and-a-half ago. Wejo literally wrote "Rewrote the high school record books" on the front page. Well, what I found was a 4×1 mile high school indoor record. If an open world record is comically absurd and unknown, a high school indoor record is truly meaningless. Rewriting the book, indeed.
I don’t know if he and Centro would have the best camaraderie. I always got the vibe Centro didn’t get along well with Cooper Teare, Evert Silva, or Ben Crawford
If they use Hunter (AUS) they can't get credit for the WR. They all need to be from the same country.
Can someone confirm this is a legit rule? I can't think off the top of my head why they'd all need to be from the same country, unless it's just some WA rule. It would make more sense if they were going for the AR.
Why does it kind of feel like this is an underwhelming team? They couldn't pull Teare or Hocker? (or maybe they weren't interested in asking them...) Perhaps that is more telling about NGTF's acceptance by the "old guard".
I hope they are able to get the record. I will admit my first thought was concern Centro would be up to this. But, if he's committed to it, he must have good reason to think he can put up a sufficient effort. It will be a fun way to see what kind of shape he's in.

Watch the New Gen NXR Northeast video, Ben interviews Centro at some point, and they seem to be on pretty good terms.

I just watched it. I guess there's nothing about it that changes my mind. Yeah, they seem to be amicable. It wouldn't really be a good look for Centro to be a jerk to Ben in one of his videos, or outright refuse to be in it. If at the end of the day Nike is paying you to be at NXR it doesn't really make sense to avoid each other. That doesn't mean you have to be buddies.
I still think that it's very possible Centro and the rest built this event for themselves and may not have been interested in inviting Teare or Hocker. Nothing wrong about that. I'm glad they have a bit of a rivalry yet still are respectful to each other!

That rule is legit. You can recall a USC team that didn't get an official record because at the time Rai Benjamin was not officially representing the US. The current record-holders in the 4xmile were all Irish guys.
It is concerning we're not seeing Hocker. This would be a soft entry into the season if he had been able to put together some training.
Good catch. Hocker should be ramping up right now.
He’s not participating in the race due to the possibility of a record. This is secondary to the new WA hair length rule- same reason Jager cut his hair to be able to participate in the World Championships.
