Ran 5:51 as a freshman, 4:47 as a sophomore. Hoping to run 4:20 as a junior. Anyone see similar jumps in their own HS career?

Only ran the mile one per season, at league championships, to score points in a tactical race.
Anyway:
5:05, 4:46, 4:30, 4:14
11:01, 10:03, 9:35, 9:02 (painful)
Yes. Tens of thousands have done it.
4:51 - 4:33 - 4:21 - 4:16
I think you could get a high or mid 4:20 something your junior year.
My progression: Freshman: 5:21 (in gym class), Soph: ? (only ran 400/800 in track or don't remember), Junior: 4:32 (ran once at conference, pouring rain!), senior: 4:23 (tactical race at WI state meet), College: 4:10 (small D3 school) - not super fast but a lot better than my HS time. All HS times were for the 1600m.
Love the times, mile p... but that progression isn't remotely close to the OP. Lol. Malmo... what do you think the most important component is for big improvements year to year?
Puberty.
I would say a quicker 800m time will help get you get more confidence and faster in the mile.

Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
