He needs to stop messing around with tier 2 marathons and go to London or Berlin. He can take down the top east Africans.
Americans ran some fast times in Chicago last year...for Americans that is. Perhaps he just wants to get a good time. I'm guessing your comment about taking down top Africans is just a joke. Those days are gone for him.
For example, if you stay in a relatively narrow north-south corridor, it’s quite safe. However, if you go to the east, let alone the west, there’s far more crime
Would love to know how you think you can go east in Chicago? There's this thing called Lake Michigan

Yes, particular neighborhoods here have high murder rates. And there is suggestion that is spilling out of these neighborhoods more (not so much murder but violent or scary crime like carjackings). But EPO is saying their spot is safe and their city over all is worse. There is a lot to say of one’s mental approach. I do not feel generally unsafe in Chicago, and a few blocks west or south of me is not the safest. This feeling of safety may be through ignorance or hubris on my part.

Not a joke. He could theoretically run a 2:05, not inconceivable. And the top Africans could all have a bad day and run 2:06 or worse. Most do as individuals, just usually not all in the same race. Certainly he could get top 5 in Berlin. He went to Europe for his current PB.
No other American can. None is even close to Rupp's level. Where is the challenge in competing against Americans? He should be on the world stage.

But he did compete against world stage runners at Worlds. 19th and a SB but still way behind the Africans. Just a couple months later Mantz ran a minute faster at Chicago. Give up the ghost. Present day 1:05 and 17th at NY and Linklater beat him after finishing the next place behind at Worlds. It's over.

This is comical. Clearly he is still being coached by the predator that is banned from Coaching. There is no one in this world that is living in reality that thinks Mr. Rupp can be competitive in a Marathon again in His Life. Mr. Rupp and Predator are the only ones living in the predators reality. And praying with each other at Mass every week. Just let the sun set on your rear ends. Bow out.

Right now, Rupp is the best version of Boston Billy we have right now. He's older but I think he'll make a comeback.
Rupp ran in the 25s today…5:12 pace and I’m unsure what that means. I think he showed up as road racing PR, which I appreciate yet, again, not sure what his approach was for the race since, even for a well off-peak Rupp, 5:12 pace doesn’t really compute as it’s not even tempo…
And to address the completely non-sequitur comment about Chicago not being a great city you clearly have never lived here or been here an extended period and are trolling yet I’m curious where you live? I also just have to shake my head at the endless droves of people who pronounce places hellholes and then have nothing to say about how you make it good. This city has amazing art, food, people, architecture and we’ll stop there for now.
EPO please enlighten me further, about the utopia you live in and the faults of Chicago (and anywhere else)!
Do something about the airport. I've been stranded in Chicago multiple times and it was an utterly miserable experience. Charlotte >> Chicago :)
And the year before Mantz’s debut Galen Rupp ran 2:06 on a hot and humid Chicago day. Use your brain.
You have no brain to even use. That race was a year and a half ago, look at his efforts since. Two DNF's, 19th at Worlds in close to 2:10, 1:05 at NY...it may surprise you to learn guys get old.
I watched Rupp run in Chicago this weekend. It was a very casual appearance in chilly weather. He even considered running with his friend and race director Carey Pinkowski at 8:00+ pace. He ran in sweats and was high-fiving other runners along the way. After the race I mentioned to him it was too bad he would probably never run again at Hayward Field and he said “naw, I wouldn’t rule that out”

That’s a weird thing to randomly say to a stranger.
Carlos Lopes came back from injury in his late 30s and won the Olympic marathon. It’s just a matter of staying healthy. If someone like Rupp can string together months of uninterrupted training he will be a factor at Chicago in the fall and the trials marathon will be a contest to see who gets second and who gets third. Circle back in 9 months.

If Rupp goes full Boston Billy in these later years I'll be on his side. (Shows up at Chicago in Brooks or Hoka or whatever, with a Mazda or Tesla singlet.)

Ya I don't know what his purpose of running it was, 5:12 pace for 5 miles is a very mild workout for someone like Rupp, and still far too fast to be part of his easy volume.
And my less dramatic reason for not wanting to live in Chicago is just because it's a big city with too many people in a small area. We'll just say they have the same number of crappy people as anywhere else, but the fact that so many people live close together means you have to cross paths with many undesirable people on a regular basis. I prefer to live in a less population dense area with my own space and fewer idiots and criminals in close proximity of me.
