I've tossed ideas around before, and reading that Robertson article got me thinking about this again:
Should PEDs be legally available for personal use? I'm all for banning it in HS/NCAA/Pro sports, but as a whole should it be available to someone who wants it? There's a few things that make me think it'd be a good idea.
The biggest reason is seeing my dad age. He used to take me and my brother camping/climbing/hiking all the time, but in last few years he's started picking up random injuries. A while ago he went to sleep fine, but woke up with his shoulder hurt in a way that took 6 months and a lot of cortisone shots to heal. My granddad lived his last 5 years hardly able to move because he just physically wasn't able to stand up. Their quality of life could be so much higher if their bodies were able to handle a bit more. I'm sure there's a lot of people who would give up the last 5 years of their life in exchange for another year or two of being able-bodied.
The other big one is how many people are obese today. There are a lot of really bad outcomes related to obesity, and there are a lot of bad outcomes related to PED usage. That said, if PEDs help people become not obese, it may be worth it to make it available. People could use some PED to get into shape on easy mode, then stop taking it and ball out.
