if their primes overlapped, it was during that olympic year when Jakob was 20! Jakob will most likely go down in history as the more legendary runner. They have been very good for each other.
PS. Can we get a single video of an American male pro even cutting their own grass, let alone running a tractor?
I've always thought Chelimo has the most swagger and brashness of most distance runners today. Jakob might have some crazy quotes, but it's been said before that this is only because of the translation issues in speaking English as a second language. Chelimo speaks absolute insanity and actually means it, lol!
If I smoke I get HIGH!🤭 If I read I get EDUCATED!🫣
Maybe If I smoke and read I will get HIGHLY EDUCATED!😂
Also, this video of Jimmy Gressier comes to mind. I don't really think he's got much swagger as much as he's just annoying, but this video just really stuck out to me. Like, who does this?
You only have the right to be this cocky if you medal on the world stage. He's never even gotten close.
How do you swagger when you're way behind in the h2h and competitive record?
So you think teenage Jakob´s losses to Tim have the same validity as adult Jakob´s track record against Tim?
The year Jakob turned 20 Tim and Jakob were equal.
When Jakob turned 21 (last year) he won over Tim in every single race they joined together.
They do have the same validity in a way -- they are both not very useful. Jakob was pre-prime in 2019 when Tim was at his best, Tim was injured in 2021 and likely post-prime in 2022. It would be great to see a 2019 Tim race against a 2023 Jakob, but unfortunately that is probably not going to happen.

Maybe Jake Wightman should be swaggering then.
Good grief do you not understand the concept of swagger?
It's inherent confidence in oneself and an outward display of that confidence (via statements, responses to questions, body language, attire, and other nonverbal methods).
Wightman is an extremely nice, polite, hard working, and talented runner. He's great for the sport and is a wonderful role model. But he doesn't have swagger. For example, he acknowledged/implied he wasn't the best miler/1500 guy over the course of 2022, but he was the best exactly when it mattered. It's honest, it's true to his personality, but it's not swagger.
In contrast, after placing SECOND IN THE WORLD AT 21 YEARS OLD, Jakob congratulated Jake for winning but then said he was "embarrassed" for "being this good, but also so bad." Jakob then destroyed one of the greatest 5000m fields assembled of all time, ran out to lane 5 to grab water twice in a 5k, and said it felt "pretty good" to be world champion, and he didn't want LetsRun (and the media) to make an article saying his win was tactical, because "[he] was just better than the other guys. I wanted to prove it's my gold."
If anyone ever earned the right to "swagger" it was Asbel Kiprop given how he dominated the 1500m for a literal decade and only started declining and not being the name in everyone's crosshairs the year of his bust.
So Asbel did his swaggering on the track, but as far as speaking and his persona, he came off somewhat meek and always a "we'll see/try" kind of guy.

While the head to head has been more even lately, Jakob is still scared of Tim. On a recent Coffee Club Ollie said that he was allowed into the mile at Oslo last year because Jakob wasn't worried about him, while Tim was on the "No No" list because he might steal Jakob's thunder.

The head to head HASN´T BEEN MORE EVEN LATELY. In 2022 Jakob won the four times he raced against Tim in the mile/ 1500m. The margins were 1 second or more.
I doubt Hoare is right. Jakob likes to race the best in the world and Tim normally doesn´t run in Oslo.
First things first, I love the video from Potato Tim. But that's not the swagger Mr. Gold Shoes World Record Holder is referencing. Jakob's got a persona like a sprinter. He's confident to the point where people accuse him of arrogance frequently. He talks the talk and backs it up. It's fun to watch.
The fact that mid-d runners felt like they needed to politely reply to MJ's tweet asking to be considered is proof positive that they don't have that sort of swagger MJ is discussing.
Closest mid-d runner to Jakob's swagger is Josh Kerr.
I think what Michael Johnson is trying to say is that Ingebrigtsen is good for the sport and that distance needs more guys with sprinter swag. But does it really matter? Of all current sprint stars, only Noah Lyles has enough swag for crossover appeal. The rest: Kerley, Jacobs, De Grasse, Norman, Gardiner have the same subdued personalities as distance guys. Maybe it's a Norwegian thing because Warholm also gives the sam hubristic vibe.
The women, on the other hand, are loaded with big swaggering personalities: SAFP, ETH, Sha'Carri, Athing Mu ... Sifan Hassan 2019 - 2021 had literal baller energy. Yet none is bigger than Sydney McLaughlin who, although a fantastic athlete, proves having model looks is the most important attribute for a woman to be considered the face of the sport.

A belief in Kiprop's earning a right to swagger is incompatible with his drug bust.
