He's dreaming big. What would have have to accomplish to become the GOAT? “I love to compete and to collect medals. That is what drives me and other athletes. It is not only about the winning, it’s about winning t...
First things first, I love the video from Potato Tim. But that's not the swagger Mr. Gold Shoes World Record Holder is referencing. Jakob's got a persona like a sprinter. He's confident to the point where people accuse him of arrogance frequently. He talks the talk and backs it up. It's fun to watch.
The fact that mid-d runners felt like they needed to politely reply to MJ's tweet asking to be considered is proof positive that they don't have that sort of swagger MJ is discussing.
Closest mid-d runner to Jakob's swagger is Josh Kerr.
I am glad to hear that Timothy Cheruiyot did not actually make that video. That Elijah Manangoi was video-savvy was a strike already before the positive test. Cheruiyot should forget that tiktok even exists if he is going to get back in the kind of form where he could beat Jakob again. Jakob has high aspirations. That is what was special about him from the beginning. Whereas his brothers aspired to European championships, even as a young boy in the Team Ingebrigtsen series and family videos it showed, he was already aspiring to be the best in the world. That meant that he expected to do it and never thought anyone else was better than him for reasons other than training. You got to believe first in a sport like distance running where the results of training are far in the distance, literally and figuratively, if you are going to do it.
"I'm here" is the opposite of swagger. So pathetic. I was glad to read it wasn't written by Cheriuyot.
But lots of the social media posts are not made by the athlete. They are publicists with quick access. For example, it's long been obvious that Kipyegon's Instagram account is handled by someone else. It's not her vocabulary at all. Several times I've seen comments begging her to respond or asking why she doesn't respond. Very basic reason...it's not her.
Every time somebody objects to it, they should be reminded how it started. Tim stating he was going to skip Bislett to plant potatoes about a week or two after his buddy Asbel Kiprop got busted (and just before training partner Manangoi - who was boasting he was going to run 3:25 in Monaco - dropped off a cliff and started getting caught in 4 am traffic jams to Rongei).
With a white hand emoji no less. Sloppy from that manager. That's not Tim. Also, it wasn't the best 1500m like Willis said. Doesn't hold up like some of the great ones over the years.

Inaccurate. Elijah Manangoi did not test positive. But he was social media-savvy. Flashy ... vain, almost.
