You've just confirmed what I said. Whatever Jakob says is fine with his fans - and amongst his competitors I don't think Wightman was overly impressed with what Jakob said after the world's - while Richardson was bagged here long before the incident on the plane.
Threads like this show that if you're the white hero of middle distance running fans you can say anything you like about your competition - because it's "refreshing to say what you think" - but the same standard doesn't apply to African-American female sprinters.
Are you reasriously comparing Ingebrigtsen with Sha'carri? lol.
After winning 1500m & 3000m double over the weekend Jacob states [LR QOTD]: “It was a feeling like I raced myself today. I would love to get some more competition but maybe that is just me, expecting too much.”
After getting beaten in World 1500m: “I am beaten by people who are inferior to me”.

Bad winner. Bad loser.
He comes off as being very confident and "cocky". He's the best and he knows it. He's also young, wealthy and good looking.
He's very popular, obviously not as popular in the USA.
I like it and I think it's refreshing and good for the sport. I wish he was marketed more here in the US because he could be good for the sport. I think he's the kind of athlete who would generate the publicity where people would watch to see him win (me) and watch to hope he loses (EuroTrack23).
Jakob seems to get along fine with his competitors. Sha'Carri, however, seems to have earned the disdain of her competitors, particularly the Jamaicans, and, unlike Jakob to the best of my knowledge, was booted from a flight. Stop with your race-baiting you misanthropic butthead.

To be fair, there’s some merit to talking the crap and being able to back it up.
Arrogance flies a little better when you aren’t yelling expletives and claiming to be the best on live TV after running DFL.
That being said there seems to be a solid portion of agreement here that Jakob got a carried away with his post race interview. Seems a bit picky and choosy to act like Jakob is being unanimously worshipped rn right?
And what about shacarris fans?! I see hundreds commenting about how brave and strong she is for doing everything but putting her talent to good use along with playing the race card as an excuse for losing to a field of athletes that were the same race as her.
And while we are playing the racist letsrun card, go check out that thread hovering around unanimously praising chelimo.
I don't have a problem with athletes being cocky. Noah Lyles is a good example of a guy who knows he's the best and is always good for an entertaining quote, while still respecting his competitors. On the other hand, Jakob has no personality, no charisma, and he just comes across as an entitled brat in every interview he does. No doubting that he's a generational talent, but it wouldn't kill him to occasionally give another runner some credit.
Wightman humbling Jakob last year was the highlight of Worlds for me. I hope Nuguse can do the same this year.
I think the relationship most posters here have to arrogance is simple: you need to back it up.
Usain Bolt's arrogance: good, because he really was as great as he said (perhaps less so towards the end of his career, but he also started getting more criticism).
Sifan Hassan's arrogance: best. Maybe better called "audacity" in that she isn't outwardly arrogant, but in the way she races (starting at the very back or the very front) and the way she competes it's clear that she has tremendous confidence in herself, and she nearly always performs. You may not call this arrogance, but it is a bit arrogant to think you're so much better than everyone else that you have a chance to win the Olympic 1500, 5k, and 10k all in one week, no?
Jakob Ingebrigtsen's arrogance: mostly good (see the upvotes/downvotes in this thread), but he's not yet as accomplished as the other two. Consider a list of top 1500m men from the past 30 years: Morceli, El Guerrouj, Ngeny, Lagat, Ramzi, Kiprop, Kiplagat, Manangoi, Cheruiyot. Lots of dopers on there, unfortunately, but among this elite group, does Ingebrigtsen stand out? I would say no, at least not yet. He's been beaten by Wightman last year, and by Cheruiyot many, many times (although Ingebrigtsen was young), so he's not unbeatable. He was pushed at least a bit in both Euro races, and the competition is higher on the world stage. He's not near the outdoor world record in any of his main events.
All that said, there's this feeling, perhaps accurate, perhaps not, that Ingebrigtsen has one more big leap to make. If he makes that leap and starts winning double gold at every championships, if he breaks some of El G's or Komen's world records, then I think what little criticism he gets for his arrogance will melt away.

Just not the best argument here.
1. Shacarri is pretty much universally attacked here. Surely you know this?
2. Where is this Chelimo thread? How many comments? When was the most recent?
To be fair, Jakob is not only losing nuance in speaking English but a major key to his success was breaking through the barriers of low confidence and low expectations. Even his older brother Henrik had the goal of winning Euros more than winning World's. There was no expectation prior to Jakob of doing more than making a respectable appearance in the finals. Jakob had to be arrogant to aspire to win world's when no distance runner from Norway or even European-born distance runner had won any World or Olympic races over 1500 for a long time.

Sounds like this second-tier elite should have gone to world XC and raced the big boys?
Um, where was he during the REAL meet, with multiple work record holders and champions in the mix?
Oh, that's right, training and tapering to face "inferior" competition over the 1500m.
