So if Valby runs the 3/5 double, the likelihood of Florida fielding a DMR at Indoors is diminished greatly. Alternatively, she could run the 5/DMR double, or how about the 3/5/DMR triple …at altitude?
I thought this was a crazy idea, but think about it, she ‘takes one for the team’, and runs the 3/5/DMR triple (assuming she actually gets the 3k qualifier) at Natty’s in order to maximize point haul. 😳
A quick guide to the 2023 NCAA indoor track and field championships, which are March 10-11 at the Albuquerque Convention Center in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

The 5000 and DMR are back to back on day 1 I think so I would say that would be a tough double.
Definitely a tough one… maybe they could sell it as prepping her for the Outdoors 10. 🥺
Theoretically, Chelangat (32:13PB) should be well under 32min this spring, since that 18:34 6k she ran on the grass this past fall pencils out to a 31:45 (Daniels conversion).
Sub 31:30 will almost certainly be required in order to contend for the Paris team. Valby should probably get to altitude living and training ASAP to maximize any hope of making that team…alas, it is, what it is; an altitude tent in Florida probably won’t cut it.

Valby has Chelangat's coach now, so can help her get the 10k title . She should move up, but can she do the mileage in training?
The 10k standard for Paris is 30:40 now. She is going to need a very fast time or a lot of points to make the team.

No way she triples, maybe no double. Injury prone, new coach.

I see the points thing as one of this ‘show’s’ (big media track game) political maneuvering to advantage the ‘connected’ (through agents, shoe companies, etc), aka ‘privileged’, athletes. Correct me if you disagree.

Probably yes. Long term I believe Valby has potential to hit the 10k standard, but may be unlikely before Paris 24.
The points system seems to currently favor certain meets, European XC, and is harder for 10k runners and college athletes to qualify.
He did it, but he could win a slow 5000 with a kick. Valby does not have that luxury.
I was suggesting maximizing ‘point haul’ (rather than actually winning the individual events) by running three events, versus two. But that could turn out to be a wash, too.

When I saw her entered in the DMR, I thought it might be a great idea, for her long term development, to concentrate this indoor training block mainly on dropping her mile (improving her speed).
