I think Obiri has more marathon potential, although Obiri's best event is still 10k. Sifan's best event is the 5k.
Hassan was the world record holder in the 10 and still her pr is only a few seconds off the pace. She’s a past world champion and is the reigning Olympic champion. Hard to argue that she’s better at 5000 than 10000. She’s run a 1:05 half way back in 2018. Do we really know her top distance as a world class runner? Yes, her form is not a thing of beauty, but neither is Obir’s. If Hassan is serious about this run and has been healthy enough to put in the training, she’s going to be a force to be reckoned with on the roads. If the conditions are good, she runs 2:17 in this debut and competes for the podium.

Also want to say that Hassan is such a baller! Choosing to debut in London with the stacked field. You’d think she might choose a 2nd tier race or even a major with a thinner field, like Tokyo. No, she’s going right in to the belly of the beast. She’s my favorite athlete in T&F by far. Can you imagine one of the marathoners and having Hassan on your shoulder with 1 or 2 K to go? She better be broken far before the race ends. She will be by far the fastest woman they’ve ever run against. Could she be a 1:56 800 runner in the past and now a 2:17 marathoner? It’s insane to even consider. I know it did not work out for Farah, but Hassan is a greater talent.

That's it. It's over. That's okay. No elite 1500m specialist goes to Marathon and ever return to the track as an elite 1500m runner.
Yea, I agree I feel like its not yet her time for the marathon. She can still do all sorts of damage in the olympics on track Maybe there is something we dont know about? Injury not tolerating speed work or something. Isnt she like late 20s?

She will run well but not up to her level on the track. Her form is not suited for the marathon.
I dont know, the marathin is where I see the most variability in form. Knock kneed, flat feet, no arms, heel runners. Just think about some of the east african women with their knees touching, Kipchoge as model of form, Rupp, Ryan hall, Molly Seidel, im not sure there is maarthon form anymore.
Radcliffe had great form below her neck. Her boggling head distracted that.
^this
It is still poor form and affects running efficiency that is the most suspicious thing about her blood scores.
How can that sideways movement not affected her forward velocity it may have been needed with her physiology but is still not efficient compared to someone with a normal running style.
Amos that '18' year old who got Silver in London had terrible form
He was not 18 and he was never clean. Doping apologist yourself some time and do not reply!
Doping Ban[edit] On July 12, 2022, Amos was provisionally suspended from competition by the Athletics Integrity Unit after he tested positive for GW1516, a banned hormone and metabolic modulator that is not approved for use in humans.[14]

y'all need to take a step back and ask yourselves if maybe just maybe your idea of what good form is could be off?
i reckon most people here can't comprehend how paula or someone like jim ryun could ever run so fast while bobbling their head because it doesn't fit into their mental model of what's ideal.

She’s 30. No chance she’ll ever beat Kipyegon, so I think her 1500 career is over now. She can run in London and still be ready to race Gidey et al in the 5000/ 10000 this summer. Anyway, she has won global golds in the track distance races, so maybe it’s time for a new challenge.

if you consider her like a female Farah, his M debut was at London in 2014. He ran 3:28 at Monaco the following year.
I did not want to demean another athlete but you want me to do Comparison and Contrast. Fine.
Sifan Hassan currently is the 64th fastest female, all-time, 800m. When S Hassan looked in the mirror (8 to 10) years ago, she saw an elite 800/1500 athlete. Sifan Hassan bravely raced every 1500m race over the past (10 or 11) years to win. S Hassan was never afraid to race 1500m in Olympics or W.C.
M Farah never looked in the mirror and saw an elite 1500m man. M Farah never bothered to race 1500m in Olympics or W.C. Did M. Farah race 1500m in Commonwealth Games? Did M Farah race 1500m at European Championship?
M Farah knew his 800m speed was awful compared to other sub-3:30 1500m men. M Farah knew he would have been embarrassed in championship-type 1500m races.
*** Marathon training kills one's sprinting speed. M Farah never had necessary 1500m sprinting speed.
Anything slower than 2:14/2:15 would be less than what she's done on the track, since a few women have run those types of times in the past couple years. I think she won't translate well and 'only' run 2:18 or 2:19. If she pops off a 2:14 or faster then I'll eat my words, but I highly doubt that will happen.

You know that last year’s female Berlin winner was a former 800m runner?
It will be very interesting to see what Sifan Hassan could do.
