I would guess Smith follows an alsal type recipe of keeping speed at all times. Rupp going to him shows pretty good chance al and Mike talk to each other about coaching
3:53.53 mile and then comes back and paces the 3k and passes 1600 in 4:02.54 then continues and runs 2:02 for the next 800m. That’s impressive. He would given Kincaid and Klecker a good run if he ran the 5k.
So his last 600 was 3:46.8 mile pace. Quality running indeed.
I am new here... why would anyone downvote a post that is just a fact? The fact is claiming that he ran a really good 1/4 mile in the middle of a race. It was the kind of pace you would see in a 3:46 mile, for people who need context on how fast it must have looked. Why downvote that?

Because you’ve come to the land of where the but, but, but ….. is king and if you Win your on the burrito sauce and you don’t perform well you go home devistated.
How does Mike Smith coach the 1500m? Any differently than the 5000-10000 group?
All his athletes drop down and kill it in the mile/1500m. I know they do a ton of double threshold now, but he doesn’t seem to be doing crazy speedwork year round either does he? Always been curious about this
My guess is A-lactic 10 second hill sprints, Tempos, and Mileage. You don’t need lots of workouts like 10 x 400 at mile pace to run the mile well. These workouts mess too much with your blood Ph.
