Last Friday on our Friday 15 podcast, we were talking about World XC. I am starting to get excited as a) it's always an amazing event and b) this year it's in Australia and c) the date has been moved up to mid-February (Feb 1...
I'm super excited to see what L&L do. If they make the team, it'll mean they made a World team before Nico did. I'm also rooting for Maggard to win. Nothing like an unsponsored runner having a breakthrough to make me root for them.
I'm a bit disappointed that more pros aren't racing it, but I think Millrose athletes/marathoners at least get a pass since there'd be so much travel involved. For the rest, I wish there was a better way to incentivize them to race. I don't think we can really fault the athletes too hard for a problem that's structural. I become more and more anti-World Athletics by the day.
huh I just read the 2013 article that was linked and it's kinda crazy. Derrick and True were the top 2 US guys and both in the top 10, and both of them had slower PRs than NCAA kids do now. Really makes you think that if the top guys were showing up, we'd get a medal.

Maggard isn't unsponsored anymore. Just signed with Brooks again
My sleeper pick to make the senior women's team is Jessa Hanson. She had a strong race at Manchester over Thanksgiving, and I think 10k cross country will suit her well. She's an athlete I'll be watching to see if she can pick up a shoe contract over the next year.

Sadly, I’d prefer to see Lex & Leo try run under 7:56 indoors.

Not a bad pick. When I was speaking to Stephen Haas about Kelati, he mentioned Hanson as someone to watch for. Of course, he also represents her, but he said she had a big fall and as you mentioned, she was 2nd at Manchester in November.
Grew up in RVA. Hope the US sends good teams to Bathurst. Won't be as hard as Aarhus but it will have hills, mud, heat and probably windy.
Pole Green is Board flat and will still be firm despite the rain Im guessing. IT's the same place where the milestat.com HS meet is held......Where about 70% of runners pr.
That college freshman Langon has a pretty decent 8K PR 23:45 (relative to his competition). Slightly slower 8K than Colin Sahlman and then beat him at 10K Nats (Sahlman did have a bad race). I think he was top 3 true freshman there on a difficult course?
Makes me think he'll blow past the rest of the field here at US trials unless L&L have something major in the bag for their first 8K
