1st Year of running: my PR for the 1600 was 6:02
Thresholds: 8:00 pace on avg. for 15 - 20 min max
I could never push under 8 min per mile for threshold - is it strange that I was able to run 6:02 with this threshold?
Vo2's: I only ran 800's and 400's, at 3:07 and 1:27 respectively.
Long runs/easy days: the rest of my mileage was steady state @ 9-10 flat pace
I was running about 22-25 miles a week.
2nd Year of running: present day
I've had a 12 week build up. running on avg. 35-40 miles per week. I am now able to run my thresholds at 7:10-7:00 pace and my long runs stay at a 7:30 ish pace. I run my easy days at a 9:00-8:30 pace and finish them off with 6-7 hill strides of 100 m.
now I recently started doing some track work following a 12 week build up. However I have run into a dilemma.
My first track workout 2nd year:
1*1 mile (6:34)
7*1k (4:02 - 3:53 - 3:57 - 3:53 - 3:57 - 3:58 - 4:02) <-- in order from 1st to 7th 1k
2*800m (3:11 - 3:10)
during this workout I noticed 2 things. 1) I run like crap and 2) my legs give out before my lungs do, for example for the mile, I went out at a 6:20 pace for the first 600m, and my LUNGS felt fine but my LEGS were becoming fatigued going into the 800m mark and thus my pace slowed down)
I've done 2 other track work out and they have the same story.
I'm not sure if this is a mental strength problem or I had a bad build up or whether I should be doing shorter efforts first or something else.
