Let me answer these questions post by J Gault on twitter:
Lots of questions, including: -Can Sisson lower her AR? -What does Dibaba have left at age 37? -What does Simpson do in her 13.1 debut? -Can Mantz break Ryan Hall's 16-year-old AR of 59:43?
1) Yes
2) A lot.
3) Nothing in terms of being world-class. I mean maybe lots of people will get excited about her being something like a 228 marathoner but I don't think I'll be in that category. If the lifetime bet is over or under 2:25 for the marathon for Simpson, I'm going over.
4) Maybe. I know Hall is good but there is zero reason that Hall's record should still exist in the super shoe era so I'm actually leaning towards yes.
3) Isn't she running the half? Not much love for the greatest middle distance runner in american history (Tainted Decker notwithstanding). Who else is a world champion from USA in this race? Simpson never lets on what shape she is in, but this fan will be all in. Cant wait.

Mantz went sub 61 for the win at the USATF Half champs a year ago for the win. He consistently beats people who have since run 60:30's-61 low. Safe bet is he'll run low 60, maybe 60 flat. I'd say it's still more likely he does not run 59:43 than runs faster than that. But he'll probably be within 30 seconds. He ran 2:08 low at Chicago, but there are many many other 2:08 type runners who have not run sub 60.
Houston should be the permanent home for the USATF half championship and for the marathon trials. No other half in the US has shown such a strong commitment to US runners and international competition. A fixed half championship is great for US distance runners so they can reliably plan their fall/spring racing. Same for the US marathon trials. No other race has as good infrastructure (hotels/conference facilities, etc.) and experience at delivering a quality race year after year.
Huddle still coming back. Improvement from last race but not top 6 American?
Sisson 1:07.50
Flanagan 1:09.25
Kemp 1:10.36
Montoya 1:10.48
Watychowicz 1:10.50
Huddle 1:10.58
Cardin 1:11.40
Simpson 1:11.42
Hall 1:11.45
Macon 1:12.09
Only two Am women under 70 on this course would be a sad day.
I agree, but I think it’s a matter of where this group is in their training cycle. Molly needs another couple of months to continue to adapt to the joys of motherhood. I wouldn’t be surprised if Simpson goes close to 1:10 with a perfect race. Cardin , MaconHall and Frazer could also run much faster, again depending on prep and taper. I’ll stick with my original guess and hope I’m wrong.

I don't know. 1500m was by far Simpson's strongest event. Did she ever run a fast 10km? She really is a middle distance runner. Unless she responds well to supershoes on the roads I would not expect an extraordinary HM from her.
Love that Tirunesh took her time to have babies, to recover from Covid, and is coming back. Genzebe is pretty much dead to to me. Every result she has is marked by a mini shrug—like great result but I don't know if that means anything.
Why a shrug for genzebe and not her sister? She was at Sabadell for the bust. You think she was ignorant of what her sister was involved in?
Not coached by Aden. But mostly because her career has been so consistent. It's not like Tirunesh had one season when she was breaking a world record and then never did anything of repute again in that signature distance.
A younger sister, also not coached by Aden, was also with them in Spain. It is hard to believe Tirunesh wasn't aware—Genzebe at some point was also living with her and her husband—but I'm not going to trash her whole career because of family association.
Mantz is going to grind out a new AR. Simpson is a very smart runner and i think she's going to test her legs but finish second behind Sisson. Sisson is enjoying the success she's had. She might be very motivated.
Never forget that Dibaba was with her sister Genzebe at Sabadell with Jama Aden at the very time of epo/anabolic bust. Never forget that many of those former Aden athletes were then “managed” by Juan Pineda after the Aden bust and his passport surrendered in Spain.
Never forget Tsegay’s amazing jump in abilities after becoming “managed” by Juan Pineda and her many trips to Spain in 2020/21.
