Jerry chose Shalane and Solinski who both have very little proof that they are great coaches. Jerry fired the womens and mens coaches at Oregon. Why. They were great coaches.
Two popular name, Shalane and Solinsko, seems to be the new tactic. Failure coming.
Everything you posted makes sense except this. At least in hindsight, knowing that this is the most popular topic on the message board and thus probably the single most interesting story to your readers.
Shalane's coaching rise--and that includes her last years as a pro helping the women--coincides with BTC's remarkable # of sub-15 athletes, and of course she won a global medal and marathon major as a runner, while Solinsky, a) knows the system and became the fastest 5 and 10k runner ever at BTC until Ahmed and Fisher in recent years, b) ran under Jerry from Wisconsin through the end of his pro career (and so, Jerry really knows what kind of character and abilities he has), and c) coached Valby to the fastest ever collegiate xc times on low mileage. So, they are eminently qualified.

Look Helen was a super nice person and had success at SF. But in no way was she leading that womens team to any success. All the gals who did well like jessica hull were previously coached by someone else. And all Helen’s new recruits bailed with the exception of maybe one or two from her first classes of recruiting. Look at her 2020 recruits. Every single one besides a girl who is from Eugene and wanted to stay in her hometown transferred out. Again- I’ve met her. She’s nice and sweet and did well at USF but something was very wrong for a few years at oregon… maybe not her fault? But Jerry should have let her go. Ben Thomas… totally opposite opinion. my .2 cents
Since Jerry has had success at coaching steeple - 10k wouldn’t of made more sense to keep the guy that was good at coaching milers? Why bring in another guy with the same skill set? Nepotism?
Solinsky is Badger bound when Mic retires hopefully.
Watson is the future of Wisco. Take the best of D2 and give him a shot in the big leagues. I don’t like to compliment Americas dairyland but at least they are not a nepotism machine.

Yes, is the short answer.
Jerry is not open to new ideas. He is essentially doing Martin Smith training with better athletes. He surrounds himself with yes people and has no appetite for individual thought or countervailing opinions.
I fear that Solinsky is making a huge mistake. Leaving the best program in the country to go to a place where he will never get credit for what the runners do since Jerry will get that. Leaving the best runner in the country behind. Valby was his ticket to getting the whole program at Wisco when they send Mick packing. Miscake!
Winning at UF comes at a high cost. Holloway is a micromanaging task master. It is a very demanding environment that few can put up with, especially if most of the scholarships are going to sprints and jumps. I imagine Solinsky has grown from the experience and is now ready to work for somebody he knows, with a different personality.
Distance is king in Eugene and Solinsky will have much more to work with at Oregon. My take is that Schumacher is functioning more in the director role of the job while coaching his Bowerman athletes on the side. Solinsky and Flanagan are the Duck's day-to-day coaches.

Parker is about the only athlete that has run well under Solinsky. He gets the best kids from FL from 800 up every year and very few have even improved their HS times.
