Interesting race: Jason Xu with a 10:11, Jerry Xu with a 10:01, Emmert with a 9:47, Rudraraju with a 9:39, Darmanie with a 9:27, Schroff with a 9:27, Gabelman's teammate Dellasanta with a 9:23.
I know the 1600m in June is Gabelman's to lose and that will be his focus, but this 9:05 lets the speculation begin. Would he do the 1600-3200 double at the district and regional meets?

That 1600/3200 double at the state meet is really difficult to pull off. What makes it harder is that the weather that weekend is usually pretty miserably hot & humid.

Yep. Winning both at the state meet in June has only been done twice in the past 30 years on the D1 boys side.
It'll be interesting to see if Gabelman actually goes for it--he's definitely capable of it. This is an interesting development to monitor between now and May.
Seems like Mason and Mas. Jackson has a lot of seniors at the top. And Olen. Orange is losing 2 important scorers although they will have everyone else back. It will be hard to tell which XC team will stand out next season. State team title will be wide open

This may be too niche and in the past, but does anyone remember the miler Evan Hughes?
I live in Upper Arlington, and I ran collegiately in the dark ages. I also know Evan’s father and his old coach. He was a 2022 grad, came along before McMahon, and flew under the radar. He hadn’t ever trained for running or raced until the end of his junior year, before running damn near 4:10 as a senior. I watched him workout at Blacklick park once, pretty smooth runner and ran a good workout. His father was damn good himself at Westland Highschool.
He’s at Ohio State now with all those 2023 guys but has barely raced at all. I know he had a stress fracture last spring, and he’s gotten another one, making it three since highschool. I know all of this because I talk with he and his fathers former coach Richie Cohen Smith, whose running shoe store I shopped at for 10+ years, and a few other geezers on the phone from time to time.
Given his background according to his father and his HS coach, I feel like he’s just as talented as a lot of these other guys. I’m definitely biased on that but hoping he figures out his injury problems. Pretty massive waste of potential if he and his coaches can’t get it right. Pretty sad stuff.
Regardless good to see talented athletes coming out of Arlington again. Look out for McMahon in June.
