Opening day was yesterday. The weather was pretty crappy- low 40's with the wind blowing west with gusts up to 20mph. Some distance performances/performers of note given the conditions:
- Landon Heemeyer wins the 1600m over teammate Cody Lucas in 4:27.11 to 4:28.61. Nico Mann of Timberline runs 4:36, freshman Hyrum Tuft runs 4:41.
-Rocky Mountain has 8 guys under 5 minutes on a cold and windy day (Reed in 4:36, Hunter Hill in 4:50, Duffin 4:54 , Richardson 4:56, Kurtz 4:59 being the others).
- Hyrum Tuft also doubles back with a 10:23 3200m. He's showing a lot of promise.
- Rocky has 4 girls at 5:30 or faster, lead by Pollock in 5:23
-Brayden Bowen of Owyhee runs 2:01.97 to win by almost 6.5 seconds in the 800m against Eagle.
-AJ Ringert runs 4:29.60 to win by almost 6 seconds over Carter Burdick of Owyhee.
-Owyhee has two boys run sub 10:15, showing big improvement.
Owyhee looks deeper than they did in cross, showing lots of improvement. Rocky looks as deep as always. Timberline looks like they are deeper than they were in cross as well.
Rocky Mountain had 4 nonseniors ahead of Hunter Hill…
4:27, 4:28, 4:36, 4:41.
If they find a really good #5 and close the 4-5 gap during cross, they might be able to be competitive with CDA and go to NXN.
If Rocky beats CDA during regular season and gets third at NXR behind CDA / Crater, that should be good enough to make a case that they should get an at-large at NXN
I wouldn't count on that. Until the NXN committee makes some changes, or at least takes a DEEP look at their biases, Idaho is assuredly not going to send 2 teams to NXN.
Seeing how Nike is based in Oregon, it isn't hard to imagine Oregon getting slipped an extra at large, and with the committee chair owning a YouTube channel that EXCLUSIVELY covers California XC and Track, they get some extra favors as well.
Not to crush your dreams, but Idaho is gonna always get the raw end of the deal.
Boise’s 1600 nonsenior times are good but not as good as Rocky Mountain’s.
Except their #1 junior (Helder) didn’t run and their #2 (Kemper) ran the 800 instead of the 1600
Highlights from the weakened -
800m - Brayden Bowen from Owyhee runs a state lead of 2:01.97 (and doubles back to run a solid 4x4 with the rest of his team)
Noe Kemper wins the 800 at his opener, out-leaning Nate Stadtlander 2:02.00 to 2:02.16
(important to note that Kemper was fresh while Nate was doubling back from the 1600)
Liam Durcan from Bishop Kelly wins his open 800m in 2:02.18, a PR of over 2 seconds!
1600m -
Rocky goes 1-2 in the standings, Heemeyer runs 4:27, Cody Lucas runs 4:28.
AJ Ringert of Eagle wins his race in 4:29, Nate won his 1600 in 4:32.14, Bryson Blaser wins his in 4:32.79
3200m -
Slow week for the 2 mile. Owyhee qualifies Liam Page and Pierce Murray, and Jack Walker comes incredibly close with a 10:20 and change.
CDA runs their first race
Timberline looks deep so far this year...
4:21 (SR), 4:26 (SR), 4:29 (SO), 4:36 (JR), 4:44 (JR), 4:44 (SO), 4:47 (SO), 4:48 (SO), 4:50 (SO), 4:57 (FR), 4:59 (FR), 5:10 (FR)
Wouldn't be unrealistic to see them have 10 returning guys sub 4:50 with 4 or 5 sub 4:35 guys. They actually have just as many non senior guys that have broken 5 minutes at this point as Rocky Mountain.
Non senior sub 5 boys by school so far in 5A District III:
Boise: 5
Borah: 0
Capital: 0
Centennial: 6
Eagle: 4
Meridian: 1
Middleton: 1
Mountain View: 4
Nampa: 0
Owyhee: 2
Rocky Mountain: 9
Timberline: 9
It's totally possible that 5A District III has almost 100 boys coming back next year with sub 5 marks considering that plenty of people haven't raced a 1600 in good weather yet and the #100 returner is currently 5:28.
Rocky Mountain results
only 2 seniors…wow
And only 2 juniors

Big 1:58 from May, and Solid 9:25 from Maximus Skinner. We'll see whether they can improve on those marks much throughout the rest of the season.
Rocky and Boise have a duel meet tomorrow. 19 sub 5 athletes between them (13 Rocky, 6 Boise), not sure what events the big names are running. Hopefully some fast times get run.
Looks like Boise hasn't had any 3200's yet, so perhaps this is the meet for that? If the 3200 is loaded, do you guys think Heemeyer/Sainsbury have a shot at 9:0x? Or perhaps even sub-9?
Kemper from Boise could also run pretty quick. After all, he has a very similar SB to Heemeyer in the mile and has run solid indoor times.
i think there will be a few guys running the 3200... Just a few
Anyone have access to heat sheets?
Rocky Mountain vs Boise results
1600-
Rocky Mountain has a solid top 4 for next year. They are still gonna need to find a fifth though. But they do have a couple of young kids that could maybe pull that of
Boise has a solid 1-5 next year. Rocky Mountain will still be better especially if they find a fifth man.
3200
Rocky Mountain’s times were not that great. They were probably tempoing this. Sam Jensen (who ran a 16:10 in XC) is back running
Big stuff yesterday at the meets that happened. Here are some of the highlights:
Tyler Sainsbury and Landon Heemeyer go 1-2 in their meet against Boise and Capital. 4:10 and 4:17. Sainsbury is now ranked 12th in the nation over this distance.
Noe Kemper of Boise has a big day in the same race, with a new PR of 4:22. He's quickly shaping up to be a big threat for XC next year. (Also runs a solo 2:02 later on in the meet)
Ian Stockett of Victory Charter has a 20 second PR in the 3200m, making him the new state leader in this event at 9:19. He beat out Sam Fish of Vallivue (9:21), Luke Stockett of VC (9:36), and Austin Clough of BK (9:39)
Anyone who was at the Boise-Rocky meet able to fill us in on what the 3200 was like? Like mentioned by Hnein, it would appear that Rocky's top guys were tempoing, although it's impossible to know for sure.
