Pipe down. Every great coach had to start from nothing. Dartmouth hasn't been that impressive in the recent years.

I definitely agree that his credentials don’t scream me but cmon. It’s halfway through the year and you’re asking somebody to come take over the Dartmouth Program. Yeah it’s D1, and IVY, but they are in a small conference and their program has shown no sign of improving. Hard to convince someone to go there at this time of year when there would probably be better options come end of this year. This Transylvania school went from like 1 guy, it seems, to an actual conference team although who knows what conference that is. If you look at their performance list he has coached 2 guys to 1:51 and 1:53 and while that’s not exactly big news, Dartmouth isn’t running that much faster. I’m sure he will do fine in this transitional period because that’s what it is.
Any current Ivy assistant would have taken that job in a heartbeat. They could have looked at coaches of strong academic schools such as NESCAC or Patriot League, it surely would have been a pay increase over those schools and at least those coaches are used to recruiting students with 1500+ on the SAT.
Transylvania averaged 27:35 at Tom Sawyer Park which is one of the fastest 8ks in the nation. Dartmouth averaged almost 4 minutes faster with 23:53 at Paul Short.
Comparing a D3 runners vs Dartmouth runners is nonsense. It's not Ivy League material to understand that those two don't compete on the same level.
Bunk Moreland to follow as assistant?
What is the thought then of why they hired him?

The worry is that the director of track is not um welcoming or easy to work with.
but that’s just a fear.

In general terms yes, but Williams could compete with Dartmouth most years
honestly i am not really sure the decision-making behind all of this. it honestly seems like porscha dobson isn't super interested in the xc team and how well they do in the near future. sean mcnulty might be a good coach but definitely a bit of a questionable hire.
and apparently they only have two distance recruits for next year? I heard that porscha didn't have one single official visit for the mens xc team this fall.
Are you claiming that none of the assistants would be interested? Would none of he assistants at Yale or Brown be interested?
After knowing Coach M for a few years I couldn’t be more excited about this hire. I understand some of the skepticism but let me tell you Sean is here to stay and take this program to new heights. Coach M has a positive impact on everyone he crosses paths with and you won’t meet a more upbeat and passionate coach. Dartmouth made a great hire and can’t wait to see the program reach its potential in the years to come.

Why not? Both non scholarship. It's very similar.
Even if what you say is true, then you are admitting he's under qualified.
I gave it Google. Might clear things up for you.
Differences between D1 and D3
D1 is the most competitive and intense, while D3 is the least.

Why is D1 more competitive? THE SCHOLARSHIPS.
He had zero at Transylvania and will have zero at Dartmouth.
The point is that he's never coached a 14:XX 5k runner so now he's coaching 13:XX 5k runners? Sorry but it's a 100% fact that much higher qualified individuals applied for the job and would have taken it. It's mind blowing that he even got an interview.
There's no point in whining about it. Let's see what he can do.
As a Heps alum, I am quite interested in this developing situation.
A few thoughts:
1) I'd like to welcome Coach McNulty to the Heps family. He scored big with this hire and I wish his the best.
2) It is encouraging that he has some support, specifically to Merber - a Heps stalwart that would put his name behind optimism.
3) It's funny that he will go from a school with 92% acceptance rate to one with one with 9% but recruiting will now have much more interest.
4) I don't know the exact history but maybe Willy Wood came from "D-3 nowhere" to lead Columbia to historic (for them) success back in the day??
5) Despite lack of coaching experience, I would have had a *really* tough time not choosing Ben True if he was indeed interested. A highly respected, local alum with World Class experience rarely is available. That would of definitely created a 'Dartmouth buzz' .
6) Porscha is doing it her way, that is for sure.

Ben true coming to coach right as his pro career wraps up would have been so nice and full-circle. Trustworthy guy who is an iconic American distance veteran at this point who knows the area like the back of his hand and likely wouldn’t want to leave the area any time soon. Worked with the guys all fall and they all really liked and respected him. Would have been great for recruiting.
porscha knew all of this and still decided otherwise. Sean McNulty might turn out great but Dartmouth may be on a very different trajectory—only time will tell. one thing is for sure—porscha looks out for herself and her power first and foremost. The well-being and success of the cross country team is far down on her list of priorities. To put it briefly, she sucks.
The coaching staff who was already there (including two who are currently in their 9th year, 1 who left for a head position at another school, and then the other who McNulty has replaced) all complained about Simons and felt he was not good for the program- some toxic traits. Def gave the 3 previous coaches and Woods some trouble.
The guy had some skill and a competitive drive though
The best ppl were not throwing themselves at this job. Come on now. The fact that people think they were is silly.
ben thomas was confirmed far along in the interview process/i think was offered the job back in september. ben true was also confirmed a finalist for the position.
