So you're really telling me the best that they could get another D3 coach..
rumor is that in the first round in september/october ben thomas was close to accepting the position and then changed his mind.
I also have heard ben true was another one of the final candidates.

It's always hard to get people to move to Hanover, NH...and the ridiculous turnover in the track/xc program up there no doubt scared off some candidates. Most don't want to walk into a dmaged and upside down program, esp if you don't really know what caused the problems.
So you're really telling me you're just going to dismiss him as "another D3 coach".... did you even read his bio??
I always thought Ben True has too much status for Porsche to take on.
but this is baffling:
Our Pioneers Men's and Women's Cross Country Teams traveled to chilly Holland Michigan where they tried their luck in the D3 NCAA Regional Championship. Our Pioneers battled through tricky conditions, ending in 29th for the Men's and 30th for the Women's, falling short of their goals but having a lot to build on. Coach Mcnaulty adds:
…..29th at the D-3 REGIONALS this XC season to Dartmouth is quite a leap!
What happened to sub-4 miler assistant coach, John Simons? Why didnt they promote him from within???
Ok, sure. So you can read and cherry pick results from one performance from Transylvania's team- Transylvania; a team that, before McNulty took over, was historically close to dead last in both their conference and region just about every single year. A team that previously turned head coaches over at a greater than yearly rate before he brought some stability in. All I'm saying is that if you don't look at Transylvania's history pre-McNulty or McNulty's history pre-Transylvania, you're probably not getting a complete picture of why he was hired
Had a chance to work Sean during his time coaching with NJNY and he was well-liked by the entire team. Happy to see him get this role and I expect him to thrive in it
Hey, nice marathon performances!

From baby division to baby conference, so basically a lateral move. At least his paycheck is bigger?

Porscha gave him the axe almost immediately after she got hired. I don’t think she liked the distance team having an assistant coach—way too much help for her least favorite event group.
Plus she didn’t want anyone on her staff that would question her authority
I’ve been there a few times for relays and it was so cold but in nice weather it is really a lovely town.

not really cherry picking: they went from 30th in region last year to 29th this year. Middle of the conference. And it’s not a power conference. does that mean they were like the 200th best D3 team in the country?
maybe he will be great , but I don’t see anything that screams “pick me”
Dartmouth had a pretty decent year in XC with a lot returning, we shall see.how it goes.

His only paid college coaching job was D3. He was a volunteer assistant at Duke. He was a volunteer for 1 year at NJNY track club. He's never coached a male athlete to under 15 for the 5k.
The Ivy League is stacked with great coaches - Gibby, Vig, Dolan, even Ireland has had some great successes. This is not a hire that can be competitive with those great coaches.
As a Dartmouth alumnus, this is very disappointing. It's hard to believe this is the best they could hire. They surely had better candidates.
What is the estimate on his salary, $100k? Maybe they just didn't want to pay for a real coach.
Does jgault approve?
I definitely agree that his credentials don’t scream me but cmon. It’s halfway through the year and you’re asking somebody to come take over the Dartmouth Program. Yeah it’s D1, and IVY, but they are in a small conference and their program has shown no sign of improving. Hard to convince someone to go there at this time of year when there would probably be better options come end of this year. This Transylvania school went from like 1 guy, it seems, to an actual conference team although who knows what conference that is. If you look at their performance list he has coached 2 guys to 1:51 and 1:53 and while that’s not exactly big news, Dartmouth isn’t running that much faster. I’m sure he will do fine in this transitional period because that’s what it is.
