Yeah, can’t wait for the “truth is stranger than fiction” section on here during April 1: “Senior Aaron Sahlman wins his first cross country race - and it’s a national title by a 7-second margin”. Lmao
Aaron Sahlman has been consistently 10 seconds or so behind the Young twins both last year and this year as well in XC. If anybody had him winning NXN then I'd have them pick my next Powerball numbers ASAP.
Yeah, nobody had him winning. If someone says they did they're full of it. I thought 3rd was possible on a good day but I thought top ten was more realistic. Fooled me and everyone else.
Does anyone else think Aaron being injured earlier in the season could have actually helped him? I remember hearing about how he was coming back from injury earlier this year.
Is it possible that taking a little break gave him a little chance to reset, while the Young’s possibly overworked themselves?
I guess Lex and Leo also said they wanted to peak for world xc so that plays a role
I think it helped him not sure about the Young’s. He did look like the fresher of the three though. Let us not forget Leo almost took down GF’s record at CA State. More like a bad day. overall the Young’s will regroup and will see some amazing track times.
Disclaimer : I know it's very tough to compare anyone to the olympic champion, especially highschool athletes. Moreover, Jakob Ingebrigtsen had professional training since a very young age while they only started running seri...
In that post you can see that 16 years old Sahlman is fairly close to the times ran by 16 years old Jakob :
1:48:91(-0.5s) 4:01(+5s) 8:01i (+1s)
What do you guys think Sahlman will run in the 1500/mile this season ?
I think he has the potential to go 3:36 3:54 and 1:47.0 if he gets in the right races and everything goes right. Remember we’re talking about a guy who was only 16 when he ran 1:48, 8:01 and 4:01.
I'm and not surprised by Aaron Sahlman. He has the credentials (the 14:41 last week at Woodward Park and 8:01 3k stand out for me) and had been gradually improving after injury early in the season. Plus, Aaron was the guy who pushed the pace for at least 2 miles last year at Running Lane--I believe he is largely responsible for those fast times. He took this race out again this year, but then settled back and waited. He executed the race perfectly.
As far as Leo and Lex, they said they were going to go for it, and they did. I have never seen them back down from any competition. Maybe they thought they could break away like Nico did. I do think there was a bit of miscalculation on their parts--they put in a couple of hard surges in the middle. When a runner takes a chance, there is always the risk of collapse; even the commentators mentioned it early in the race. By the way, Lex and Leo weren't the only top runners who didn't finish as was hoped. It just didn't work out for them on this day. On everyone's best day, I believe Lex and Leo are the best of a great field.
The race was exciting to watch. I see numerous super-fast times coming in track from all over the country.
Rich wasn’t talking about the Individual Title in Colin’s case but the team title. I think the reason why he had to say “in 2019” was because he wasn’t allowed to bring up any other National Championships not affiliated with Nike. So he was gonna say 2021 but he caught himself before saying it.
I think this will lead to great things in track. Aaron seemed to struggle with pressure indoors and outdoors where he delivered relatively sub-par results compared to what we knew he was capable of. Hopefully this gives him a lot more confidence. Congrats Aaron.
So the highest Aaron has placed all season before today was THIRD. As far as I can tell he placed second in one race last year. Anyone know of any other second-place finishes? Absolutely a unique XC career!
I know that Brosnan has consistently pointed to Aaron as having the best speed of any distance runner he has coached, which indicates he can improve on Colin's 3:56.
If he gets the HSR for 800m, imagine the aneurysm that Cade Flat will develop lol.
Looking at milesplit, Aaron has not even cracked 51 in the open 400. He could maybe break 50 this year as a senior but definitely not sub-49 by any means.

Don't pay attention to that. Just because Aaron hasn't officially broken 51 in the open 400 doesn't mean he wasn't able to.
Athing Mu has run 1:55 and 49.5. There is no way that 1:48 Aaron can't beat Athing in a 400.

Prediction - Aaron Sahlman will break the high school 800 record in the USA semi by NOT slowing down in the final 10 meters. Cade Flatt is going to lose his mind!

Meh, he has 1 400 listed on milesplit in his entire career in a dual meet, after he had already run a mile. Safe to say he could run faster
