What’s a “confidence booster”? Young ran as fast as he possibly could today and so did Hicks. If he had had 5 more seconds left in the tank he would have won.
I mean I can respect having an opinion, but when you state it in such an blatant way with no room for argument ("It was proven" and "will not win at Nationals in college") that's no longer saying an opinion but comes across as stating a fact
If he doesn't, being at the top of his game for that long is still a pretty big accomplishment. Getting 2nd today is still pretty good and doesn't preclude him from becoming a Paul Chelimo who finished 2nd at NCAAs but was America's dominant distance runner.
I think he might, he might not, but racking up a bunch of all-americans is also impressive
Albuquerque New Mexico, it was going to be held there in 2020 before it was cancelled
Wow, I didn't realize. That does seem a little bit unfair though to sea-level teams doesn't it? I've done one training camp at altitude before, and I felt terrible for at least a week before I got acclimated. Are we going to see sea-level teams going there weeks in advance?

No. No teams will go there several weeks early.
All the athletes had actually traveled to Albuquerque for the indoor championships in 2020, and they had only arrived 1 or 2 days ahead of time.
The four best distance runners the US have had since like the 70's are Rupp, Lagat, Chelimo, and Fisher. None of them dominated the NCAA. Fisher won one title...Rupp didn't win until his senior year, Lagat won a couple titles, and Chelimo won one title. Winning a bunch of NCAA titles doesn't translate to professional dominance. Just ask Cheserek and Cragg.
It took Galen a while to win his ncaa titles, and in XC he was also beatable. Grant fisher only won one ncaa title . Nico will win something eventually
you're right--he's better. Nico reminds me of Rupp so far in his collegiate trajectory, always a contender but not there yet. He has some of the best PR's in his cohort, just needs that confidence booster. I bet this winter he has a huge showing carrying into outdoor. He is the future of US distance running.
I was getting ready to pretty much post this. The only difference is Rupp never won an XC title in high school and Nico has. Once Nico starts winning, he may not stop for quite awhile.
Reminds you of Rupp…. Another dork to represent the country. Just what we need!! Just as I thought the sport of running couldn’t get more boring. Give us a lillesø. We need someone to bring some proper manly aggression competition. Or someone who starts fights at least.
Nico was oh so close today. he ran “bigly”. however Hicks had just that few seconds more strength at the end because he had the luxury of being able to draft the first 8k.
I predicted this exact outcome in a different thread 😂
I thought Nico ran awesome showed lots of heart. The Hicks kid conserved more energy drafting to 8k. Make no doubt about is Nico and his teammate ran incredible to get points needed to help win the team. Nico is a gamer make no doubt about it! Just fell a tag short yesterday on winning it all. With that said I knew hicks would win bc NAU did all the work
Nico's form looked phenomenal yesterday compared to his senior year of high school. And not just his arms. He clearly is lighter on his feet, much less of a grinder. No matter what happens in the spring, I think we are going to see a monster his senior campaign. As we saw yesterday, Mike Smith knows how to time things right, and he is going to have Nico timed perfectly for his senior year.
