No lie, when Greg Metcalf got rightfully done at Washington I wondered how much longer Wetmore and co. could manage to continue to skate. I see now that it's because they were more subtle and better insulated, though it was simply a matter of time.
A good editor will publish a story when it interests the most readers. So if they think this is an important story that the running community should read, the timing was just right in this case.
I fully credit Al Cantello and the “spot he had for me on the team” for both convincing me to go to the Academy and also the reason I left the Academy in failure with numerous health issues due to an eating disorder.
I was on the CU team. They never cut runners who were running slow(I was one) while I was there. The times people got cut were unrelated to performance.
Like when the guys on the team raped the female kicker? Yeah totally underserved.
Mark Wetmore is a douche bag. CU is a school for douche bags. The CU xc team is a whole bunch of douche bags and always has been. Everyone who is actually elite knows this. Couldn’t happen to a better program.
Fun Fact: CU has not had a male ncaa champion in over 15 years in any season. Overrated.
By promoting fresh foods, nutrient timing, and healthy body composition, the University of Colorado is ahead of the pack in keeping its distance runners fueled optimally.
"The ISAK test is a fantastic tool because it allows for a more diligent and specific monitoring than simple body fat percentage equations. I present the results from this assessment as a sum of skinfolds (sum of seven) to minimize the risk of the findings being distorted. Other information in the athlete’s nutrition profile can include any notes I have from interactions with athletes regarding nutrition education provided, supplementation history based on bloodwork and trends within their bloodwork, bone mineral density history, sweat analysis/hydration protocol, and other pertinent lab results."
Fake news. Look at Kristian Blummenfelt. Sub-14 min runner who is built like a linebacker.
But how many sub-13 minute runners do you see built like linebackers?
Kristian may well have the engine to be one of these, but his running economy is severely diminished by his build.
P.S. In person, the guy is tiny. He just looks big compared to other incredibly tiny people - which ironically reinforces the statement you were attempting to argue against.

Cantello tan Jordan Tropf off the team by calling him too fat. Again, no science or reasoning behind him doing so. Cantello had problems
Tropf is the guy who ran 3 2:30 marathon back to back. You think the Navy team could have used a guy like him? Absolutely
As he crossed the finish line of the Boston Marathon against a backdrop of raucous cheers and clanging cowbells, endurance runner Jordan Tropf finally had a chance to catch his breath after a whirlwind journey that included f...
“Eat often, eat mostly nutritious food, and drink plenty of water.”
Thats the only commenting that coaches and their programs should have in regards to nutrition. It’s on the athletes to take care of that. It’s on the coaches to design running programs. If both are going well then the athletes will get fit.
Any comments on weight or weighing the athletes / body fat percentage is abuse. It’s a recipe for EDs. These coaches should be fired on the spot.
any coach or person who thinks they "know" running over the age of 30 or 35 (unless properly educated and willing to try new things) should just not exist on let's run.com. literally everyone ik under the age of 30 just roasts this website. and everyone under the age of 30 are the only people still relevant in US distance running.

Cantello’s mantra was “don’t eat.” That was his message. Not eat better, just eat less.
He once pointed to three of my classmates and said “the only thing separating you three as runners is a glass of water.” He said it as a joke, but the message was clear: the less you eat, the less you even drink, the better runner you would be. He pounded this message into us every day.
one year, before the first cross country meet, he say the varsity team down and, inches from their faces, screamed at the top of his lungs that if, when they get onto the starting line, they think about that Snickers bar they are three weeks earlier, they’re race was done.
Cantello would call his athletes “fat asses” in front of everyone else, he would call the female runners fat and worthless within ear shot of then and the women’s coach.
this kind of sh*t had very real negative consequences. But he got away with it bc he had been there for so long and bc he beat Army in the dual meet. Also, Navy left Heptagonals to join the much less competive Patriot League, so he got to brag that he won the patriot league meet instead of getting like 5th at Heps.
Cantello should have been fired literally DECADES before he retired and before he was inducted into the collegiate coaching hall of fame and all but knighted as a living legend. He played everyone for the benefit of himself and to to the detriment of all the midshipmen (read: future naval and marine corps officers) who crossed paths with him

I think it's good these coaches/programs are checked and reminded there are limits to their power. They overstep their boundaries when they poison these women's minds with eating disorders. And then they should face the consequences.
Being a coach is a matter of determining intervals, building motivation, making a team... Their role is not that of a doctor. Glad there are penalties for treating athletes like replaceable parts and risking their well being!
Why do women care so much about what society says or what people call them? Call me fat to my face I don't care. I'm not going to resort to shoving my fingers down my throat because someone said I look chubby.
It is totally mentally weak to change your behavior based out of society, social media, or anything outside of yourself.
