I would run in these for a lot of my fastish runs if they weren’t 200 dollars……..
The Adidas SL20 is a great shoe and has some good pop
Others have mentioned Kinvara but I've also had good luck with Fastwich and A9s.
+1 for Nike Pegs. Interested how weight trended over time but they seem to strike a balance weight/durability ratio. My bet would be the weight decreased while maintaining durability
Easy to get 400+ mi on em with not a ton of breakdown. Owned probably 20+ pairs over the years.
Unsure if Nike Peg Turbos still exist, never owned a pair, but that would be even lighter, probably less durable.
HIGHLY recommend the Puma Nitro Velocity. Lightweight, responsive for fast running (up to 5:00 pace on intervals) but still plenty of cushion that I would use it for a long run up to 18 miles. Best running shoe I've run in in awhile (I'm a 3-4,000 mile per year kind of guy so go through a lot of shoes)
Brooks gets a lot of hate on here, some for good reason, but the Brooks Launch is an excellent fast trainer. Can pretty much do it all from track workout to long run. Also easy to find on the WWW for about $75, and they'll last 800+ miles...
HOKA RINCON !!!! Now at version number 3, Best shoes so far!!! It can handle any pace , is durable, very light and also has an incredible price !!!
Saucony Kinvara fits the description, although their recent installments deviated a bit from the previous feeling the shoes had.
Also solid, but beware if you have wonky ankles. The shoes are unstable.
Must be where you are. They are basically giving away all of last year's Saucony lineup. They must have over ordered from suppliers by a huge amount due to the pandemic. You can get any of them for $100 or less. I got the speed 2s for $60.
I am a big fan of running in a light daily trainer, so I've experimented with a few and my favourites are:
NB Rebel V2: Light, fast with no plate but still enough foam under your foot to be comfortable. My personal favourite
Nike Streakfly : Super light, feels very fast. I know it's a workout shoe but honestly it works great as a light daily trainer (although it's expensive so maybe not the best idea)
Endorphin Speed: Plated, not as light but a very solide choice.
Nike Peg Turbo V2 : Grabbed some for a low price on ebay, they're good but not a #1 option.
The NB Rebel 2 is incredible. Was a big fan of version 1 and for some reason never picked up version 2...can't believe I waited so long to get a pair! Fantastic shoe and great if you have a wider forefoot. Unfortunately they are getting hard to come by as version 3 is being released soon.
New Balance Rebel V2
I've never run in Kinvaras or the Nikes being mentioned and I don't think you want a track flat.
Out of the shoes being named so far, I would go toward: Adios 6/7 (the 7 search it, it's at <$100 rn), Saucony Endorphin Speed 2, or maybe a Novablast 2.
All these shoes are pretty light. The Speed might get you very far (and last the longest/most worry-free miles). Get the Adios 7 if you don't want to be in a year-old model - otherwise I'm just recommending purchasing last year's best-of list (instead of the boring, 39th iteration of whatever legacy model). Rebel v2 and Adios are each borderline workout-only shoes, though.
disagree with this - i did a 15 mile long run at moderate pace in the rebel v2 last sunday. it's got a nice amount of padded squish and I find it up to snuff for all types of runs even besides workouts.
Hoka Carbon X 2. Last years model, carbon plate, used as a daily trainer and for tempo runs. Price should be coming down due to X3 already out.
Easy enough to find them for ~$100, but where on earth are they $60? I'd stock up at that price.
I got a pair of the Speed 2 on Amazon for $86 a few weeks ago. I'd buy another pair right now for $60
Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
I’m a D2 female runner. Our coach explicitly told us not to visit LetsRun forums.
