I don't think he's really an 800 type despite it being his preferred track event. Coming off an injury he showed great improvement in fitness today versus his first race. I expect his performances will continue to improve as he gets more fit.
Los Altos 3-6 moved up a combined 47 spots from the 2.1 mark to the finish line. This is why they won.
There are so many post on this thread acknowledging the importance of the 3-7 runners. It’s wether they ran well or had a bad race. True cross country fans understand races are won and lost based on how these runners race.
I’m stunned that an experience coach like Buchanan would only line up 5 runners in a big cross country race. Especially when you he knows his 4:47 1600 girl is in consistent in cross country, 27:01 at Woodward at last years state finals. Buchanan must have some girls that can fill that 6 and 7 spots. Give runners a chance and they may surprise you.
looking at final times I still believe Los Altos beats a full strength Buchanan.

27:01 for a 4:47 runner isn't inconsistent, it's a complete breakdown which implies something was very wrong.

I know right? They are so frickin deep this year! Deep last year, only their 7th runner in college. Just put those JV girls in cause why not? Give them experience. Valuable for next year.
They only lined up 6 at Woodbridge? What the…
They better at least not make these mistakes at sections, state and NXN
The times is the boys XL and L heats were really slow compared to last year (and even the earlier heats of the S and M schools). So the heat was taking its toll?
Big Soobrian did not have a great race for her and Fanil, their 10:45 state qualifier from this pass spring has not run since the Lowell Invitational, and they still won. They still have more in their tank to improve.
Lil Soobrian maybe the most improved runner this fall. She has improved on some of the courses she ran in last year by 2 minutes.
im tooting my own horn. I’ve been saying this for months. Watch out for Los Altos. Though ranked 3rd in the California region they were left off the national rankings, they weren’t even on the teams to watch Shame on the national rankers.
That would be Fadil, not Fanil. Dad was a Stanford All-American. Mom was a good endurance athlete in her own right. Carry on...
The finished results website has detailed stats, like merges. In the boys' merge NP has 57 (San Clemente 205) team time 1:15:03, av runner 15:01, five- man gap 1:12. At this meet last year NP had 20, team time 1:13:37, av runner 14:44, five-man gap 0:47. This year's NP team is excellent, but last year's team's iconic status will only grow and year after year teams will try to compare themselves. It will take a similar perfect storm to ever have a team like that again.

Newbury is very lucky they got the transfer kid from Florida. They would be vulnerable without him (they would only have 5 guys and be scoring a 16:15 guy at a national meet. An off day or injury from one of the top 4 would be devastating).
