Rocky Mountain is #3 in the country based on average 5K times
Based off of the insanely fast IEL course. Avg 5k off of Bugtown is 15:41, avg 5k off of Firman is 15:49.
Every school in those rankings has been on at least one "fast" course by now. One of their Top 5 didn't run the insanely fast IEL course either.
I don't put much stock into athletic.net rankings as you can't compare XC courses, but Rocky Mountain does seem to be a Top 15 team in the country when at full strength
Honestly, rocky is overrated. Yes they are good, but I think that they are going to struggle more than expected at state.
All the marching band training that Keith Uitdewilligen has been doing will catch up to him at state. It seemed to me like he went all out at districts on a brutal course, so his already beat up body is going to be extra tired.
Their 5, cody lucas seems to be getting better, but his strava shows that he is on the bike 2 days a week minimum, so if I had to guess, he probably has a couple stress fracutres or at the least, shin splints.
My boys predicstions -
1 Rocky (scoring 73)
2 CDA (scoring 81)
3. Boise (scoring 94)
4 Eagle (dark horse scoring 136)
Well if Lucas doesn’t come back then Jesuit and Crater might put a big gap on Rocky at NXR and Rocky might not get an at-large. Midwest, Cali and SW are deep and strong
What has Eagle possibly done to indicate that they can finish at 4? They have one legit boy, and then would be lucky to get another in the top 20. Unless they are packing their 2-5 all in the 20's and low 30's, I don't see that. Mt. View, Timberline are the real 4th place contenders, and if you want a dark horse, it's Centennial.
Boise and Rocky 1/2 for girls 5a
Cody Lucas third on the RM team. Hill 5th.
1. Rocky
2. Boise
3. CDA
Lol
CDA placed well with what they have right now. They return their full team next year. With a smaller 4-5 gap they could go to NXN next year. Crater looks good for next year too. They will return everyone but Gorze
CDA has 0 seniors and 2 juniors. someone else mentioned here they have some good freshmen coming in. This team is on the RISE!
Bishop Kelly was the second best team at state. Huge performances for their 3-5. Who saw that coming?
Idaho falls almost had ‘em. Imagine how they would have done with Athay.
Next year they keep 4 guys from this year. With those guys and Athay back they will be very good
Bro can you not just analyze and be happy for what a team did this year, what's with you and the future? Clough had an incredible performance, huge pr. Don't mask the greatness of the present with the possibility of the future.
So last year Rocky Mountain scored 40 points with 4 seniors. But all 3 nonseniors have scored at state.
This year they scored 30.
The addition of Hill and a step-up by Lucas was helpful
National qualifier predictions for Idaho:
Rocky Boys to NXN. Heemeyer with a top 5 spot at NXR, probably 2nd to Gorze, that will roll to the 6th place finisher.
Anna (sp?) Peters top 5 at NXR and on to NXN. She looked really strong at state. Seemed to have even more in the tank at the end.
Nelah Roberts to either NXN or Champs Nationals. Probably Champs again but she has a good shot at top 5 at NXR.
Matt Thomas already announced for RL. Assuming he sticks with that, he’ll show well for Idaho.
Anyone else with a strong shot this year? At one Boise girls was a pick for NXN, but it looks like they have dropped off a bit.
Based on these speed ratings, Rocky Mountain might actually win NXR this year. Especially since NXR is in Idaho. They are better than Jesuit at positions 1,2,4 and 5 based on these speed ratings. Jesuit’s 4th didn’t seem to have progressed very much.
I feel like more Idaho boys teams should be qualifying for NXN since NXR is in Idaho. But I think this will be the case going forward, especially after seeing teams like CDA get better each year
Look how close Hill was to Heemeyer and Stainsbury in this race. Has the training on the new team affected his progression?
Should he be closer to them now based on these results? If he closes the gap on them, Rocky mountain could be very dangerous
Some of the Rocky boys have made ridiculous improvements since last fall. Not everyone does that. You can’t see rare huge improvements in one kid and expect others to do the same.
It’d be interesting to hear if there is an upgrade in their training that explains the improvements, or if they just matured a little and that was enough to translate to becoming elite.
