I thought so. I support his decision to tell us and I wish him well.
It will be good to see him improve in athletics over the years.

oh look at me, i pretend i don’t know who nico young is and had to google him, even though i frequent this running forum, that talks about him all the time because he is one of this countries biggest running talents.
this whole idea of thinking you are cool and interesting from not knowing who someone is, is so trivial. get over yourself.
I’ve noticed Nico’s Instagram followers went up from 45.4k when I checked earlier into his announcement to 45.9k. Happy to see that it’s not the opposite that’s happening and many do support not only for his running but opening up to the world who he is and being proud of it!

This is the type of post where I'm glad we have the upvote/downvote system. It's good to see all the downvotes on the idiotic comments to know most people don't agree with them.
Finally, I understand the popularity of "don't say gay" laws in some quarters. Homophobes don't want LGBTQ+ people to get away with "normalizing" their own humanity. Stop pretending otherwise, homophobes.

My guess is that this still takes courage to do. And I do think that this is a good encouragement for younger gay high school kids out there who are struggling with their sexual identity. Bravo!
I wish they’d ban you again.

Near 25% of posts so disgusting they warranted deletion and thread changed to only allow registered posters.
And people still question why coming out is a big deal or why Letsrun has its toxic reputation.
A wedding between a man and a woman is a public celebration of heterosexuality. Do you refuse to celebrate or accept the couple because it is none of your business?

Yes, it’s sad that there is still so much bigotry out there. At the same time, I must say as a gay man it has been heartening to see the overwhelming positive response to Nico’s news on this site. When I was first saw this thread title, I had to brace myself for the inevitable snide comments I knew I would see from the usual suspects. While there has been some of that, the vast majority of comments here have been positive in nature. I was/am pleasantly surprised by the outpouring of support. As of this writing, 307 out of the 340 “votes” on the initial post in this thread have been in favor. That’s 90%!
I hope Nico knows the vast majority of people in the running community support him. I, for one, feel much better about being a regular on this site after today.

Mad props to Nico for having the courage to come out publicly on Instagram. While we are making progress in this country (and in others), this still requires courage and guts. Especially for someone with as many followers as Nico has, this is a big deal in a good way.
Straight people don’t have the onus on them to come out as heterosexual, which shows we still need to make progress on how sexuality is viewed by most people.
Congrats to Nico. You can tell how well this kid was raised by his actions on and off the track. He, his parents, and his brothers are such a supportive happy family.
When I think about it, the courage and guts Nico shows in his running style are the same courage and guts he displays here. This news actually shouldn’t be that shocking or a big deal, but Nico is being a great role model to the thousands of younger runners that look up to him.
As someone almost twice the age of Nico, I’m happy to see the public reaction has shifted much more positively toward being gay and coming out as gay. When I was in school, the word “gay” was used pejoratively as an insult and a joke. I think generally people are much more supportive these days, though obviously not everyone is (as evidenced by the number of posts deleted on this thread).
While I hope for his sake he doesn’t read the message boards, on the off chance he sees this: Nico, we support you. Letsrun can be a toxic troll-filled place, but the real fans love you.
Nikki Hiltz truly says it best. They posted this on Nico’s IG post — “Those who matter don’t mind and those who mind don’t matter.” Couldn’t be a more true statement

I will not be making any comments in this thread because the mods would surely ban me again. During the summer they have brought on a new level of unfunness to LRC that is hard to imagine.
It’s a shame, since the potential of using Flag in this thread in humorous ways seem quite lengthy.
Dude if you think anyone is missing out because you aren't allowed to crack jokes, you're wrong. Even when you're not doing it to trigger the libs, you just aren't a funny dude.
