1) This was a 19 year old girl, not a fully grown man.
2) The article even says " But Tuesday's attack is "unprecedented and a totally isolated incident," he said."
I didn't say they have never happened to anyone ever, just that they are extremely rare, and every case I have heard of has been a coyote attacking a woman, not a full grown man. (Attacks on pets are common though.) Again, given coyotes are basically everywhere, and there are nearly 400 million people between the US and Canada, I would say it is extremely unlikely ol' Dean was attacked by a coyote.
I really do not like Dean K. This guy bs’d everyone for years about how he was the ultimate runner, didn’t produce lactic acid, etc. guy is a hobby jogger with a good PR team.
Coyotes are typically pretty skittish towards humans, and attacks are extremely rare given how many coyotes there actually are in the US and Canada, even towards women. The idea of a wild coyote, unprovoked, attacking a full grown, standing, healthy man is pretty much preposterous unless it was rabid.
If this incident actually happened I find it way more likely it was a stray or feral dog with some husky or some breed in it that made it vaguely resemble a coyote.
I think the guy tripped and fell into some sharp objects. That would not be good for his image. The only coyote that would act that way would be a RABID coyote, and there is no mention that he went to a doctor immediately about that.

The Golden Gate National Recreation Area provided the update on Twitter, four days after Dean Karanzes, 59, shared an Instagram video, claiming to have been attacked close to the Golden Gate Bridge.
Dean gives ultra runners a bad name and now he's giving coyotes a bad name, which is funny since they already didn't have the best of reputations amongst four-legged creatures.
Maybe Dean has become a prisoner of the white lines on the Marin County trails.
For your viewing pleasure two versions of Joni Mitchell's Coyote:
Rabies shots would be mandatory unless he has a death wish. First of all a coyote isn't inclined to fight for a meal or any other reason. And a coyote wouldn't go for the face of an adult male when bare legs are available. A cat might, but its intention would be to go for the throat. I ran in the California desert lots of times (Joshua Tree) and was often accompanied by either 3 or 5 yotes in a pack. They stayed about 50 feet away and always broke off after a mile or so. ( I would step up the pace thinking they'd have to work for their breakfast.) The alpha alone would sometimes draw closer, but never appeared aggressive.
Coyotes, wolves, cougars and bears can all attack, but during the day light, it is extremely unlikely. Grizzlies and Black Bears will be most concerned when you are near the food source or young, otherwise they are not interested. Cougars protect their young. Or there has been the rare cougar attack when the animal is starving and will eat anything.
At night possible, but still unlikely.
But this guy was not attacked by a coyote.
The coyotes in Stanley Park have nipped at people because they associate them with food. Some a$$hole has fed them. Stanley Park is not an "inner city" park. It borders on a pretty nice area of the city. And in fact, there is a real inner city in Canada. Maybe a small part of Toronto and Montreal.....

You forgot model. This guy had super model good looks in his prime, and he did a lot for the sport in that way. Kind of like a much more handsome Nick Bare before Nick Bare.
