Akbache is definitely a pacer. Race should go out really fast (54) and I'm hopeful guys like Gourley, Rozmys, Sadiki and Stonier go to the back and let Kipsang, Tim and Jakob set up a 3:28-3:30 race. Garcia and Heyward both looked tired in Munich too, so the early running at the front should be left to the 3 I mentioned, Hoare and maybe McSweyn or Kerr if they're feeling better.
He's a pretty good pacer, actually. Can run an even-split first 600-700 at 1:50-1:51 tempo. He led the first 700 of the Bislett mile out perfectly. Ideally you'd have a second pace maker to bring them through 900 or 1,000 however. Can't really see him lasting longer than 800 (which might be stretching it even).
I wonder why Filip Ingebrigtsen isn't pacing his brother. Hasn't he recovered from covid vaccine yet? On second thought, to get the WR, ~2:17 is required for the first 1000m and Filip needed pacers himself to run 2:16 at Bislett Games.
There is literally maybe only 10 guys capable of running 2:17 in the world right now.
I did. 11 Guys ran 2:17 or faster in Monaco. But not all of them would be good pacers, since they gave it all and a pacer does need a little reserve to stay strict and even with the tempo. I'd say someone with 2:15 capability would be needed for an even and smooth 2:17. Probably Kinyamal could do a good job. Maybe Murphy or Hoppel.
Good question is if any A lister would be willing to be a pacer.
Ngeny paced El G until ca. 1050m during the WR attempt in 1998. At the time he was a 1:45 800m, 2:15 1000m and 3:30 1500m runner. That's the kind of a guy we're looking for.
Kerr, Cheruiyot, Kipsang, Wightman, Kinyamal, maybe Mario Garcia, that's about it at the moment.
You might want to look at the 1,000m results from Monaco. Plenty of runners who are 2:17 capable exist. Lausanne should pay a second pacemaker IMO.

I agree with you on this, It would not be anyone who had to run ALL OUT to 2:17 in a real 1000M race. It needs to be someone who could run 1.5-2 seconds faster, so they could comfortably run the 2:17 evenly or close to that ..get by in 2:17.x..I am also, no longer a big fan of extended pacing for 1500M races..800 to 1000, should be the max anyway, if not , you get a "drafting effect" for far too long ..I think. Probably not in the majority on that.

Maybe Wightman can run 2:15 comfortably. But he may be the only one on the plant that can do that right now.
I don't know what is the shape of Cheruiyot these times. He looked recovering in the Commonwealth Games. As for Hoare we need a confirmation of regularity in his performances.

Well what you need actually is a guy who can run 2:18 evenly paced. There is no need to go faster. That means maybe a 2:15 in a race. There're 800m runners who won't be in action who they could try to lure (Murphy, Hoppel, Bol, Kinyamal, Wanyonyi) capable and honestly Sowinski could probably make it 900 meters.
Anyhow Gonzalo Garcia was added to the field and I suspect he is the second pacer. 3:35 SB, made European Final.
