I think the Lakota East kid that was 3rd is only a sophomore.
That school has struggled since they were 5th in the state a while back so he is probably their only hope. It also looks like their coach for the last 15 or so years went to Loveland.
There should be no excuse for schools that are as big as Lakota East & West and that are in an area of solid demographics from an income standpoint, to struggle. Centerville is usually solid in all sports and it is a smaller school that either of the Lakota schools and has similar demographics. Same for Strongsville and some of the Cleveland area schools that are even smaller because the area that they serve is smaller.
Results from the Hot Summer Bash. At this point I should probably stop posting my opinions on this forum because I clearly have no idea what I’m talking about lmfao. Ricchuiti wins in 15:21 over ilg and Trapp. Coffman WINS the meet over Jackson and ST X(Who I think ran their full squad but I’m not sure) and Jerome was 5th behind Orange. They were without Guerrera so they probably would have beat Orange with him, but the team results are crazy. I know it’s still only September 2nd, and things are bound to change come the postseason, but I still don’t know what to make of things. Are North and Kilbourne really the 2 best teams in the state behind Mason at the moment? They both beat Coffman last week. It feels weird. I’d love to hear some other opinions because I’m flustered
It looks like St X has their work cut out for them this year. It's always hard to tell where they really are, though, because it seems like they never run the full varsity together until the district meet.
Does anyone else think that the way that they do team scores now on milesplit, sucks? They're hard to find and sometimes not there at all. Finish Timing is pretty bad now also.
Looks like Mason will win state again, and could do very well at NXR if they can get a 5th (perhaps the younger Xu) to step up and close the gap on their 4th They also had 2 freshmen go 16:56 and 17:08.
I haven’t had any issues with Milesplit yet, but definitely with finish timing and CRC. Seems like there’s all sorts of issues with results pages right now
I'm surprised to see the back half of Jackson's lineup struggle as much as it has. Prao, Hull, and Ball are all experienced seniors that, based on last year's results, would be running much better than they currently are. It appears that Ball didn't race today, so hopefully he's healthy. At the end of the day, it's early. But it definitely does seem like a s*itshow with regards to teams 2-10 (assuming that Mason is #1). We're in for an exciting season!
Just watched the video of the WN meet. Yeah, not surprisingly, Gabelman looked good.
I look forward to Gabelman vs. Ricchiuti match-ups this season (the sub-9:10 3200er vs. the sub-4:10 1600er) and expect them to battle to the wire for the gold at Obetz in November. I want to say that Ricchiuti is the current favorite, but I also think Gabelman could take it.
WN with new jerseys? I see a big WN on them but to me they read as "WiN".
It was also good to see Day of Scioto hang in there and get the silver at the WN meet, but at this point, I guess that is expected of him. Will he finish in the top twelve at Obetz in November? I'll say, yes he will. It will be good to see him pushing himself and running with the lead pack all throughout the season--just needs to hang on a bit longer.
For now, I'll stick with my pre-season prognosis of Mason as 1st and St. X as 2nd at Obetz in November for the repeat of 2022. I am still skeptical of Kilbourne's chances at the moment--the WN meet didn't convince me.

I think Gabelman, Ricchiuti and Smith will be a good matchup but where was he??? I'm really confused what Kilbourne was doing yesterday? I think think they need to all run 30 seconds faster if they have a chance at states really. But each week the 4-7 have been changing I've noticed but maybe they were trying somthing new without smith (thats what it sounds like) but north for north theres not much to say besides they look good.
1 Ben Gabelman Westerville North 15:18.46 • Yr: 122 Weston Day Dublin Scioto 15:35.75 • Yr: 123 Jacob Reash St Francis De Sales-Columbus 15:53.60 • Yr: 114 D...
Kilbourne’s runners were told not to race and instead to run together for roughly the first 2 miles. You could see some of the runners looking around and talking during the early stages on the race. Fitness wise, they’ll be fine. But some of them were certainly frustrated with the decisions that were made yesterday.

Since X lost to Springboro at the start of last season and finished 2nd in the state behind Mason, I think that they will be fine when it matters.

where did you get the video??

Agreed. Kilbourne looked uh.... confused at best. Kids looking around, shrugging shoulders, trying maybe to group up? Weird. Whatever it was, it was well behind North. And Scioto. They certainly didn't look like the team that beat Coffman last week, that same Coffman team who we all know just beat Jackson, St X, Jerome, etc.
From what I've seen so far, Westerville North is the best team in the state. And Gabelman is either state champ or runner up.
But to state the obvious... November is still two months away. Much can change.

That’s a waste of a day.
If you’re going to race, race.
If you’re not going to race, just do a workout.

It’s absolutely a waste of a day. But that’s Kilbourne’s coaching for you.

I ran XC at Westerville north in the 90s. Exciting to me to hear they’re so good now. There was no Westerville central back then, so talent is even more divided now, but we were never close to best in state. Is this just a luck thing or have they built a good program that is sustainably competitive?
