Based on her videos, it may possible that she’s lifting too much. Lifting helps with strength over barriers, but I don’t see the point of doing single leg squats with a chain around your neck holding a 45lb weight. If that’s what Joe and her meant by revamping her training it may be that all that lifting may have bogged her down and dampened her speed between the barriers.
Love how Emma took all the questions after the race. She owned it and didnt try to dodge it or answer with snipped answers. Very classy. Hope she can have some nice races in the Diamond league to get her confidence back.
Emma is on a 10-year run of being the U.S. champ. Until that run is over, why hang it up? She ran a gutsy race and admitted she wanted to medal and not run 3 x 3:03 to get 5th. As a former WC who can blame her?
Disappointing result last night (she said so herself) but still significantly better than what our contingent of men’s 800 runners did 😳
It’s getting on the old side for a steeper who still possesses her best 1500 speed. To podium anymore, it’s going to take a female who can run sub-8:50 in perfect conditions. She can probably take one more shot in Paris, because why not at age 33, after which she may retire? But I would love to see her try to move up to like the 10,000.
That is nonsense. Emma is 31 and that is not an age where you decline already as a middle distance runner. She said she struggled a lot getting back after Tokyo. She took time off to let her body rest etc. To me it just seems a case of training for so long for so many years she needs an extended break and a reset.

This sucks. I was really hoping she'd medal. She's been dealing with the cluster that was Tokyo and her mom's illness. Although I think her fall in Monaco right before Tokyo unnerved her.
Do you think she'd be competitive in the 10? I seem to recall her joking at some point about not having run a 5K in a long time.

My point being that I get the impression she doesn't like longer races, but I could be wrong.
It looks like her PR in the 5K is 15:24 from last February and that she hasn’t run a competitive 10K.
Hard to know what she could do if she focused on the 10 but it certainly looks like she lacks the flat speed to be competitive on the world stage with the likes of Gidey, Obiri, etc. and do any better in the 10 than in the ‘chase.
Truth is she got into the steeple while it was still a niche women’s event, and has been able to make up for a lack of pure speed with much more efficient hurdling form than most of her competitors.
I just don’t see her success translating to other events. She should try to extend her streak of U.S. championships in the ‘chase as long as she can IMO.

Research "accommodating resistance training" or "variable resistance training". Without seeing a video of her lift I am assuming much of the chain length is on the floor and during the concentric portion of the lift the chain lifts off the floor...thus adding weight to the movement.
This is a dynamic movement use to increase power and similar movements have been used in many different sports for a few decades now. I am glad at least one distance running coach has come into the 21st century.
Explain "bogged down". She doesn't look like some insane powerlifter.
Increase power...without increase in excess body weight...increase running economy....increase performance.
