Why are haters like you so weak? Some people think it’s because you are opposed to compassion, unable to employ intelligent analytical thinking skills, and lack general sociability. What do others think? It certainly is weird that you can’t even recognize the many successes US 800m runners have had over the last decade.
First night I couldn't watch live; just getting caught up. 800 surprised me in that Hopell didn't advance. I would have thought at least the SF, if not the final. If Brazier is truly injured, then whatever. Miller was a great story at USAs, but not surprised.
The historic bell curve for U.S. male T&F goes from 60 yard dash to 600 yard or 600 meters. U.S. males are historically the best in the world from 60 yard dash to about 600 yards or 600m. It is not logical for U.S. to have fallen in 800m performance so significantly.
* I am not going to say tactics. If 800m runners are good enough, 800m runners can race the entire race in lane 2 or on the outer edge of lane 2 and still qualify for next round.
* Has USAT&F made 800m friendly to the athletes best capable of doing well? I have posted about this topic over and over. USAT&F from middle school is friendly to future 1600m & 3200m runners. US most likely produces the most 46.xx & 47.xx 400m guys in the world. Most 46.xx & 47.xx guys in college race 400m then go on to lead their lives outside of T&F. Most U.S. 46.xx & 47.xx 400m guys never move up in distance.
* When I was in grade school to middle school, we did Presidential Fitness Test ever year. Schools tracked our 400 yard run in elementary school to 600 yard run in junior high school. I guess high schools now race 600m in P.E. class. Are high school P.E. instructors tapping the young men on the shoulder who race sub-100 seconds 600m in P.E. class and asking them to join T&F team as 800m runners?
* Maybe we need to recruit future 800m men from Pop Warner football games. Recruit wide receivers. I've stated the need to recruit American football receivers previously. Nearly every time I state this, someone will post a photo of a 220 pound N.F.L. receiver. N.F.L. receivers were not born weighing 220 pounds. Maybe we need to recruit receivers before optional (mandatory) high school weight training.
The Europeans are absolutely dominating the world in the 800/1500. Kenya and Ethiopia also seem to be relatively lackluster in these events right now. The top 5 in the 1500 last night were all European.
Cute. You cite 1 race to establish absolute domination. You sound like the guy claiming Norwegians are the absolutely best distance runners in the world, or that Slovenians are absolutely dominating the NBA. Oh, and don't forget the Japanese are absolutely dominating Major League Baseball right now.

For at least 2 years now:
8 Europeans and 1 American in Tokyo 1500m final, 4 Europeans and 1 American in Tokyo 800m final.
This year in Eugene - 7 Europeans and 1 American in the 1500m final, 9 Europeans and 0 Americans in 800m Semis.
Samuel Tefera is a 2x world indoor champion. Yomif Kejelcha is the world record holder in the indoor mile. Their women do extremely well in the 15/mile. I wonder if the fact that more Europeans grow up playing soccer helps with respect to the middle distances.
No one cares about indoor athletics, Coevett. And East Africans grow up playing "soccer" and other sports too. No. Wayne Rooney wouldn't have run sub-1:40.

2019 - Brazier solo runs 1:42.3 with two other Americans in the final, Timmy solo runs a 3:29 in the 1500m.
2019 Al Sal gets banned and WADA open a lab in Nairobi.
2022 - No American gets out of the heats in the 800m, Timmy and Kipsang flop in the 1500.

Lol, I really do live inside your head. You're accusing me of pumping up the achievements of Ethiopians now??

Soccer in Europe and in particular GB has been a double edged sword. With the introduction of Premier League soccer in England in the early 90s, there was no contest in deciding whether to be a top class runner or even a mediocre premier league player (or even lower division). Cram's uncle played top flight soccer for Sunderland, and Cram likely would have too if born 10 years later, Ovett. But of course, playing soccer at all hours from a toddler, as every British kid did back then obviously helped their later running talent.
Then in the early 2000's, something else happened - foreigners started dominating English Premier league teams, and only the most outstanding young English talents could get into teams.
The 'African invasion' of European soccer is probably another reason why the 'African invasion' of middle-distance running is at an end.

I don't know what you mean but in the last world championship we had 3 in the final and finished 1, 4, and 8. Our 3 best 800 runners have been injured or struggled with consistency these last 2 years but that can turn around quickly and there are young guys coming up.
Can they really turn it around quickly? Brazier was injured again and needs achilles surgery. Someone else needs to step up to the plate and be our #1.

What kind of stat is this?
America can only send 3 runners. Europe is a continent full of countries, each of whom can send 3 runners.
