Some people think it's because they are opposed to hard work, unable to employ intelligent strategic thinking skills, and lack general courage. What do you think? It certainly is weird that they can't even rise with home field advantage.

The Europeans are absolutely dominating the world in the 800/1500. Kenya and Ethiopia also seem to be relatively lackluster in these events right now. The top 5 in the 1500 last night were all European.
Maybe if they did more than race a domestic circuit they could get race tough
They are weak because they lack strength. Need to do more deadlifts until their running magically improves.
When has Ethiopia factored the men's 800/1500?
Only on letsrun will you see poor 800m performance compared to a school shooting. Brazier has proven he’s a world beater when he’s healthy. Gosh this is a different level of stupid in a comment.
Samuel Tefera is a 2x world indoor champion. Yomif Kejelcha is the world record holder in the indoor mile. Their women do extremely well in the 15/mile. I wonder if the fact that more Europeans grow up playing soccer helps with respect to the middle distances.
This makes me wish Murphy made the team, he would have at least made the semis
An individual cannot be perfect or strong in all their life. There are flaws here and there.
There are some races Americans are superb, some in which Jamaicans are supreme, still others where Africans are strong.
You cannot have everything all set in perfect shape in your life...
They are so beat up trying to make the team.
American are weak because they lack the basic 45-46 second 400m open speed NECESSARY for laying down 1:43-1:44s consistently. Too many are 46-47 second guys on relays only. It doesn't matter how many miles of training you put in: if you aren't fast to begin with, you will NEVER be a player.

Unfair comment.
Hoppel does race quite frequently in DL. Brazier went to Doha and got injured. Miller is running at ncaa all season long. Koech is a total unknown before USAs - he is running for US army so I am not sure if he is sponsored by a shoe company.

I mean…Kenya could get anywhere from 0 to 4 finalists in the 800. Not sure what’s lackluster about I think 6 guys under 1:44.5 at their Trials.

I think this is a cesspool of unintelligible comments. As someone who ran the 800 this year I can say confidently you are wrong. A lot of superstars this year struggled, not just in this event. Please remember people do see your harsh comments. I said it USAs and I’ll say it again here, no one this year was at full health, you could tell from lack of races. Miller was the only “over raced” one and his coaches prioritized this meet over NCAA’s which this one clearly matters more.
I would love to see the majority of posters hop out and try to run 2 back to back rounds then will yourself to do it again in the final. It sucks, it’s a harsh event. We’re doing our best and we will be better in the following years.
Support your fellow runners, don’t tear them down.

In trainers.
On 6 mi per week
I don't know what you mean but in the last world championship we had 3 in the final and finished 1, 4, and 8. Our 3 best 800 runners have been injured or struggled with consistency these last 2 years but that can turn around quickly and there are young guys coming up.
I’m a D2 female runner. Our coach explicitly told us not to visit LetsRun forums.
Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
