They need to change this stupid rule. Who decided that it's impossible to react faster than 0.10 seconds? It's impossible to even see a different in the slow motions replays. The rule should be that if you start before the gun, you're DQ'ed. I would also accept a reaction time limit if they allowed one false start. But the current rule is just ridiculous.
iaaf literally commissioned a study proving 80ms is possible in 2009 lol
Sprints are tough because you have to get out fast. I would like to see a super slowed down video.
gonna be the biggest mainstream sports media story of the championships. so sad for the sport.
Holy shi7. This could be grounds to sue for any athlete dq'd who started slower than 80ms.
There is no such thing as bad press. This is GOOD for track, You think Barstool would have tweeted in Allen won?
No when this Kentucky Pharmacy goes down
might get a bigger reaction .
I love how the judge/official just immediately was like "Nope. Nothing I can do".
He should have got a warning.. Total BS
Seeing an athlete get history ripped from them like this reminded me of Armando Galarraga losing a perfect game by jim Joyce blowing call on final out
The whole storybook ending for Devon was right there and it’s taken away
Devon Allen now #1 trending topic on Twitter. Such a bad look for the sport. They fumbled this so hard.
Consensus seems to be that fastest possible reaction time is between .10 and .15 secs.
Watching video currently available it doesnt look like Allen jumped the gun.
That said, if they were held in the blocks a long time it is possible Allen relaxed in the blocks, taking enough pressure off the blocks and to trigger a false false start.
Tough break-
Just so you know, according to the results, every single person in that final reacted faster than .15. Which is extremely unlikely.
also that study is junk science - it’s well documented that depending on if the reaction is partially/entirely subconscious, a person could theoretically react faster than .1
I agree. Also, the two female sprinters who were disqualified were robbed, too!!! We need to get rid of this 0.1 rule.... the gun signals the start of the race. if you go AFTER the gun goes off, you did NOT false start!!! 🤦♂️🤷♂️

Looked like a false start to me.
T-9000 here can distinguish a .099 reaction time from a .101 ... This is literally the test case for why this is bullsh!t.
Already been mentioned but I am guessing that .001 second is beyond the accuracy of the sensors. If you trigger that block 100 times or 1000 times what is the variation of the reading. Probably more than .001. They need to have some information about this, and make a rule taking this into account, so when something like .001 happens nobody is DQ'd.
Was every athlete in the race within .001 of a false start? Because it looks like they all had the same start.

what's the margin of error on these sensors, anyway? Probably more than 1/1000 of a second.
Machines have 0 margin of error. That is why we trust and love the science bro.
I’m a D2 female runner. Our coach explicitly told us not to visit LetsRun forums.
Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
