Fun fact: Brentwood has a 2018 grad (who runs at NAU) that has the first name as the guy currently leading the team. Except that 2018 grad has an E in his first name
FM girls team got beat by CNS. https://results.leonetiming.com/xc.html?mid=5201 Remember, FM girls almost beat Saratoga earlier in the season. All this is telling me that Saratoga isn’t #1 in the country this year especially only with one wheeler. If only 1 wheeler is racing all season, that Saratoga 8th grader better step up. The depth at Buchanan CA is basically unmatched this year. They had a good year last year already, returned everybody, and added some stellar freshmen. Burnt Hills boys team beats FM in a tiebreak. No Rounds from BH or Cooper D from FM. All of the top 3 boys teams in this race are very young and gonna make NY stronger next year. Fairport crushed it.

It's pretty clear at this point that FM has nothing behind their top 3. Cooper D isn't likely to be a difference maker, considering that he's not running right now. BH has some upside if they get Rounds back in form, but neither of those teams is a threat for NXR. FM right now is barely better than Baldwinsville, Auburn, and WG.
4 of Fairport’s top 5 were nonseniors today. Just when I noticed that, and that they dominated this meet, I also saw that they were missing their #4 (Lesher, junior). I think they have a fab-5 ready to go next year. Next year it’s looking to be a 3-way race between St. Anthony’s (returns 4 guys from the 30 second-ish 1-7 pack), Fairport and Saratoga. Saratoga will lose their #1 so it might hurt them. Saratoga has a nice set-up for 2024 though. But, can Fairport enter the chat for an NXN berth THIS year? Well, they lost to Saratoga, so not very likely. Their 4-5 don’t seem to be there yet. Looks like FM and Burnt Hills are out of the picture for next year also.
North Rockland varsity boys is 2 freshmen (tuohy and Claudel) and 2 sophomores. Look for them to enter the chat in a couple of years.

Saratoga girls will be the best team in the country for the 4th year in a row
Doesn’t sound like it actually. Buchanan took their #1 spot as they should have. They are #2 here, but realistically, they probably won’t even make the podium especially with only 1 Wheeler.
Unfortunate that this matchup cannot be shown at McQuaid, with St. A's hosting their own meet downstate and Monroe Woodbury taking the weekend off. Another invy to keep an eye on this weekend is Grout in section 2, with a lot of key players from the competitive section 2 duking it out.
Based on interviews he has given in the past, Aris probably won't take a team to NXR if he doesn't think they have a shot at qualifying.
This year might be a good time to go regardless, considering literally half of this team is seniors. Any other team can have a bad race. Their 1-3 are competitive, and their 4-7 have a lot of time to continue to progress (2 of them have a lot of time to get healthy again). Of the 4 guys in the 4-7 group, only 2 of them score. But it is nice to have a 6th and 7th to back them up. Not saying FM is better than MW, but all of MW’s top 5 need to be healthy and on top of their game at NXR to have a chance to qualify. Last year one of the reasons fm didn’t go to NXR could be that there was no NXN. They could have chosen RunningLane if they wanted to. But they wouldn’t have made the gold races.
im surprised that none of the top NY teams chose RunningLane last year.

There weren't any great boys teams in NY last year. Saratoga's girls were essentially the same team that won NXN two years prior; they didn't have anything to prove. Not worth coming up with $10K or so for the trip.
FM has two competitive guys. Their #3 is running as fast as he ever has, and is behind the #5 guys of MW, St. A's, and Corning. Their 4-5 guys are running in the 130s, when they're running. Winning Sectionals will be a good result for them.
Corning only third behind St A and MW. I agree that this is a 3-team race, but out of the 3, Corning is the best one IMO. They were one of the top 2 teams last year and returned almost everyone. The other 2 teams weren’t even close last year, although St A and MW did return all of their key guys.

The ratings seem pretty good in both cases... with the exception of Burnt Hills' boys, who are too high based on performances this season. No way should they be higher than Saratoga.
2 - 4 for the girls are super close. Any given day, any of the 3 could be best.
