Basically the question. Mainly interested in the boys rankings but the girls will be interesting too.
Basically the question. Mainly interested in the boys rankings but the girls will be interesting too.
Boys side:
1. Corning
2. st. Anthony’s
FM, Saratoga Springs, Niskayuna and Northport are dark horses.
Girls ones are pretty obvious.
1. Saratoga Springs
2. FM
Yeah I’d be suprised by anyone but Saratoga and FM leading the girls
definitely have Corning one, a little suprised to see st ants this high but they were good in the 4x8 this year
St Anthony did only place 10th at Feds but they return all of their top 4 as well as a 4:28, 9:56 and a 10:03 guy who were not part of that top 4. So that makes this team really deep.
FM boys are losing their 3-5, but retain their top 2 and also Ben Perry who is sometimes up there with those 2, and has been on varsity since 2019. They need to close the gap behind their 3rd to get top 2 at NXR again.
Ben Perry got last at NXN 2019, so I’m sure he’ll use that as a motivation to lead the team back to NXN and hopefully place better than that.
Cool stuff! I think fm, as long as they have some talent will always be able to piece it together at the bottom of their scorers, so they’re definitely a good bet. Also Tully runners will have team rankings out in a few weeks and individual ranking out on the 17th
Looks like shen and niskuyuna are gonna be hurting, but besides that should be similar
Kind of surprised to see you mention Saratoga and Nisky without Burnt Hills. They’re all in Section 2 so it’s not hard to see from Suburbans and Sectional results that Burnt Hills was deeper last year and brings back more even while losing 3 of their top 5.
If St. Anthony’s can translate track results to XC they could be good but they’ve really been down for years now ever since their peak in the mid 2010s. I’d give FM and BH the edge but I’ll be really curious how Tully Runners rankings for those teams look.
I don’t think Shen will get top 2 next year. They are losing 5 guys so that’s a lot to make up for.
Niskayana got 5th at Feds and return 5 of their top 7.
Actually, when I looked at the database for the returning 3200 times, I’ve noticed that St Anthony’s returns a better group of 3200 guys than Corning does.

Yeah Burnt Hills is a team to watch too.
I just thought that losing 3 from the top 5 from a 5-deep team is a lot to make up for.
But, they almost always seem to have someone come out of nowhere.
I remember they went to NXN in 2019 after losing their top 4.
Also, they are looking to have only 2 seniors this year. So look for them to maybe get top 2 in 2023.
As for Saratoga, they actually had 2 guys come out of nowhere last year - from mid pack JV to sub-16:30. Both are returning.
They are also looking to have a deep group of 3200 runners.

Berndt ran a sub-16:30 last fall.
4 guys from this group are returning in fall 2023. (in addition to Owen Mansfield who was in their top 7 in fall 2020 and 2021).
I guess we can count Niskayana out. Tullyrunners website has the grades wrong for 2 of the Nisky runners in the feds results. They’re actually losing 4 guys, not 2.
Burnt Hills actually returns the second fastest group of 3-mile times based on milesplit. So if St Anthony’s Cc season doesn’t go as well as their track season did, they might very well get second if FM cannot find a 4th and 5th. Burnt Hills actually won NXR without one of their top seniors.
I was surprised to see that St Anthony has never done any 3 mile races. Another fun fact….North Rockland is actually ranked 5th for 3-mile times. Katelyn Tuohy has a brother!!! They have another person in Ryan tuohy’s grade in the top 5 for NR.

Burnt Hills returns the fastest group of 3 mile times for 2023. Not surprising consider they will only have 2 seniors in 2022.
Don't let the Brojos and letsrun evaluate North East talent.
I kind of like the Purrier-St. Pierre concept...

Thanks for carrying this thread. In regards to your Saint ants vs Corning topic, I remember Corning having a comfortable lead on any other school in the 2 mile for returners on milesplit, but it’s possible I overlooked some 32’s or vice versa. But yeah st ants is looking very competitive. They had an xc invite last year at sunken, so I think that will be a good evaluator for how they do. I think the big competition for them last year at that meet was Northport, whom they beat, but Northport took the win at feds. They should also be an interesting team as they lost their 1 and 5 men from states, but have a 4:18 returner.
On milesplit I’m seeing an average of 9:39 for returners at Corning, and st ants at 10:01.
Oh, that 10:01 average for St Anthony’s was for indoor. Same with that 10:06 average for Corning.
but you are correct that the averages for Corning (9:39) and St Anthony’s (10:01) are for outdoors.
Seems like some of the St Anthony’s guys did better at Indoor than at Outdoor.
These are significantly off. These are times from indoor or a previous year. Bange has now run 9:26, Cornfield 9:28, Cornfield #2 9:36, McLaren 9:42, Beres 10:05, Mahoney 10:12, and Homa 10:20
Also FWIW they would have won the state meet last year even if you take out their two seniors (who were 1st and 6th in team scoring, respectively). They also were 2nd at the NXN-NY regional without their top 2 runners, who ran at Eastbay regionals (their #1, Jack Gregorski, qualified for nationals).
They have the top returner (Bange, a 4:14 miler), the best returning 5th man, and plenty of runners in between. Gabe Cornfield was AA in the steeple (5:57 for 2k...pretty fast) and should factor into the conversation this fall in a major way.
Honestly, I would be shocked if any other team was anywhere CLOSE to them this fall. They were totally dominant this year, and only lose two runners from their top 7. Their young talent has developed well, and while Gregorski will be a big loss at the national level, Bange looks ready to step up and be a similar low stick. I expect they are looking to be pretty competitive at NXN, and will likely improve on their 12th-place finish in 2017.
You’re right. The times I listed here are from the indoor season.
Corning’s outdoor season times were faster. I don’t think it will be possible for any NY team to beat Corning.
They got second at NXR and return their 2-6.
