Why are there so few professionals groups in the US that focus on the 800m? An event that the US should look to dominate every year.
From what I can work out, the only real options are to join a group that has a mixture of distances (UA, Brooks Beasts) or a smaller group like the District Track Club (now Baltimore 800) who have has some great results of late, and more recently Atlanta TC is on an upswing.
There’s a bunch of 1:44-45 guys in College each year that seemingly have no where to go?
The US should have 5-6 1:43 guys each year, which would push 2-3 running 1:42 and then push the top guy to run 1:41.
US women are killing it, with 12 athletes under the world standard, only 7 for the men (plus defending WC Brazier). But they all are spread across numerous groups and train solo.
With the imminent collapse of OTC which was once an 800m strong group, where are up and coming 800m athletes to go? If Cade Flatt or Will Summer want to win gold in 2028, where would they go?
