Lame!!! He’s a pro. You bomb, you face the music, answer the questions from the press, even if they are inane and you carry yourself with dignity even in defeat. No excuse for blowing off the press unless you are in an ambulance on the way to the hospital.
it would appear he needs to go back to whatever he was doing last year. staying uber fit for 8 straight months. whatever he is doing this year is obviously not working for him. not sure if they're trying to be too cute, or what.
if it ain't broke, don't fix it!
He looked fine until the last 20 meters. He set PRs in 5K and the mile so we know we was fit. It seemed more like a mental breakdown. Last year he came in with no expectations. This year he was the favorite. There was a lot more pressure.

This is what happens when you time trial with your training partner instead of practicing racing tactics in real competition. Times are nice, but if you can’t make it out of the first round at USA’s, you can’t expect to be a medal contender at the world stage. I root for the guy but just because you made the Olympic team last year doesn’t mean it gets easier from here. You have to work for it every time. He isn’t going to forget this and it’ll make him better. A pissed off Cole Hocker in the diamond league is going to be fun to watch this summer.
An off day was Jakob losing to Tefera at world indoors and getting silver. Hocker today was a whole other level of off day. He’s our 21/22 1500 national indoor and outdoor champion, Olympic finalist with a 3:31 pr. He ran 3:39 high and failed to advance to the final. He got beat by B and C team pros. That’s not an off day, that’s a disaster.

Last year he was constantly racing. Not so much this year.

Totally agree. Bush league move to storm off.
he didn’t storm off. he just kept walking.
if a quarterback has a terrible game and costs his team the win do you stick a mic in his face immediately afterwards? give him a little time to process it at least.

I generally tend to agree with this. But don’t judge the guy too harshly. He’s a 20 year old first-year pro who was just dealt a tremendous disappointment. And he didn’t get that pro contract for any other reason than being able to run mid distances really fast. There are worse ways he could have conducted himself.

Maybe Hocker needs to rip up his contact and go join OAC. Teare can come too. I never would have predicted the gulf that has opened up this year between Hocker and Hoare. Hoare is looking stronger and stronger, while Hocker and Teare, not so much.
He ran better before he was forced to get the Covid 'vaccines'.
I swear this world is turning into a bunch of soft, paranoid crybabies.
A few athletes have been posting about allergies since pollen count is high in Eugene right now, which could be related. Or he just hit the "pushing to hard" phase of training after a great 2021, he's overcooked himself this year.

I know, I’m sounding like an old curmudgeon, but this behavior drives me crazy. His coach, his parents, whoever, should tell him to go back and answer questions until there are no to be asked. This is what great pros do, even after bitter defeats.
