NCAA All-Americans are happy to advance out of the first round. Flatt is proving he's legit. Imagine what kind of legend status it would place him in if he makes the final or the World team.
If Flatt makes the final no one will remember a few years from now.
If he had broken a really old high school record people would be talking about him for a very long time, just like people are still talking about Granville all these years later.
Yes and no. Track and Field News would accept it as the HS record, but it would NOT count as an NFHS official record. Those must be set in high school meets certified by state associations.
You Cade haters don’t get it. He and Granville are tight. They talk weekly. He doesn’t want the record. Cade Flatt has became a millionaire this season. You morons can’t see the forrest for the trees. You fools are still talking about how old he is. Well played Mr. Flatt. Go get yours! He absolutely is the best ever 100%

NFHS records don't mean much, because the NFHS excludes a lot of meets.
The official girls NFHS 800 record was 2:02 until Roisin Willis just broke it at her state meet a few weeks ago, because the dozen or so high school girls that have run under 2:02 have all done it at non-NFHS sanctioned meets.

I literally pointed out in my post that NFHS only counts certain meets, meaning I was clearly alluding to the two sets of records being different.
Personally I don't like either set of records. TFN doesn't count college records from after nationals, they probably shouldn't count high school records from after either. But I am also against not counting championship or "pro" meets that were done while the athlete was still in high school just because the meet wasn't "sanctioned"
Granville, because his next race was the state final, which he ended up being too tired from his national record to win. And people thought he should have saved some energy for the state final so he could be state champion.
I always wonder, when I see things so easily disproven, whether people just don't know, or they're flat out lying.
People have and always will be too damn lazy to fact check, especially if it fits some narrative they agree with.
"which he ended up being too tired from his national record to win."
Granville won the final the next day.
Isn’t it weird how groups of people can mythologize history and collectively misremember what really happened? I clearly remember him setting that record, then winning the title afterward. But I swear this is like the 15th or 20th time I’ve seen someone say he lost the final after setting the record. I think I first heard that error around 2002 or so, so it’s an enduring myth. I wish I know how our collective minds worked so that I could tell you how these myths get started. Fascinating, in its way.
If you just keep repeating something in spite of all evidence to the contrary, there will be enough people who believe you that you can destroy an entire country and all it stands for.
Flatt bordering on GOAT 800m territory with three runs in the mid-1:46
He is probably the GOAT. A couple hundreds doesn't really matter. Kersh probably doesn't get enough love .Summer also running fast does sort of devalues Flatts times.
Will we remember Flatt if he goes DFL in the semi? The record is what kids see online, not if he made it to the semi's of the USATF senior meet. Cade will be the GGOOAATT if we gets the record tonight, and if he flames out off the back of the pack he will be forgotten like Kersch who was much more successful post HS than Granville. Lot of cred from setting the national record.
