in western countries generally racing doesn't pay unless you are at the very top level i.e. national class. and there is too much competition in places like UK, USA.
Go and live in or travel around regions where the prize money is, and run every weekend, pick the right races. get friendly with the Africans and the other guys faster than you and ask them which races they will run so you don't waste your time going to the same events. travel on buses and carry a tent around with you. you can make a living out of it for sure (I do and I have a 10k PB of 34:06, marathon 2:39) and it's a nice, or at least interesting, lifestyle.
those times are in tropical climate, might be equivalent to a low 33 minute 10k and 2:35 marathon.
