Wow. Louisiana’s state meet and NXR South are only 5 days apart. similar to last year when they were only 4 days apart. Gonna be interesting to see how Jesuit LA deals with this, now that NXN is back

There are a lot of kids from other states who are the same age and have ran faster than them so its hard to say where they will be in 2023 cross country. I don't see your boys in the top 10 sophomores. Here are the current top 10 this year. Funny how the top three have the same last name.

The Parras from Texas go to the same school so they are probably brothers.
Since Ty Garrett is transferring out of Valor Christian, this team no longer has a chance to get top 2 since that leaves this team with only 3 returners. They would need to find 2 more guys to close the gap behind their 3rd in order to get top 2. So I predict Niwot and Cherokee Trail to get top 2 in the Southwest region for the boys.
Where is Ty transferring to, any intel? I think they are originally from the midwest.
Some Valor runners told me he moving to Arizona, they didn't know exactly where.

I found on Strava that he was training in Johnston County, IN. That made me think he moved back to Indiana. He used to go to Center Grove HS his freshman year.

Two intense 5k races and 13+ hours of travel (New Orleans is 4 hours from the state meet and 5 hours from NXR) in the span of 5 days is A LOT for anyone, much less high schoolers. My school won't even let us travel twice in the same week for sports. Has NXN ever extended an at large bid to a school that didn't compete at NXR? It would be a shame to not have Jesuit LA at NXN, they are one of the best returning teams in America (going off of 3200m times).

I don’t think an at-large bid was ever given to a team who did not run NXR. They were given out to individuals who competed there though.
It would definitely be a shame to not have Jesuit compete at NXR/NXN. They have the best returning squad of 3200 runners of all the teams other than Newbury Park.

The answer is simple, don't waste your time on NXR or NXN and go to Runninglane
Technically Nike makes an exception for all California schools. Because their state meet would conflict with a regional, no California schools are required to compete in an NXR meet to go to NXN. I’m sure Nike could make a similar exception in this case
Projected top runner for girls in each region: New York - Karrie Baloga Heartland - Abbey Nechanicky California: Sadie Engelhardt Southeast: Irene Riggs Midwest: Tatum David Northwest: Kate Peters Northeast: Ellie Shea South: Samantha Humphries Southwest: Bethany Michalak
Dont crown Humphries in the south quite yet. She may not even be the top prospect in Texas as Isabel Conde de Frankenberg has become an absolute monster here lately and Shewaye Johnson is pretty good too. Plus she has girls like Abby Faith Cheeseman and Reagan Riley and Sailor Eastman in her region all of whom ran faster than her last year. Although I do definitely think she has shown steady improvement over her sophomore season. 2:07/4:44/10:23 is no joke.

Yeah I am sure that there will be surprises. Natalie Cook went from not being a top nonsenior at the TX state meet in 2020 to #1 in the country in 2021.
Abby Cheeseman is in TN so she is in the Southeast region. Same w/Sailor Eastman who is in Georgia. And Reagan Riley who is in Alabama
I can never keep those damn regions straight. Colorado is in the southwest while Hawaii is in the northwest? Oklahoma is in the south while Alabama isnt? make it make sense... How did New York end up with its own region anyway?
Jesuit doesn't like to race back to back weeks much less 2 in 5 days. I think they saw how travel can kill the legs with their performances at Arcadia. Would make sense to stay local and run for runner up at Running lane rather than attempt to go to NXN and have things fall apart.
Northwest: 1. Jesuit - got 3rd at nattys last year and returns 4 guys from that varsity squad. I think they’ll find a 5th based on their depth. 2. Bishop Blanchet - returns a 15:27 average Watchlist: Lincoln, Franklin, Crater, Boise Senior, Rocky Mountain
If Crater really does get top 2, or even somewhere close to this, it would be awesome. They only have 18 returners on the roster.
NXN Predictions (with predicted at-large teams included):
1. Newbury Park CA 2. Jesuit LA 3. Grenada CA 4. Jesuit OR 5. Union Catholic NJ 6. Great Oak CA 7. Corner Canyon UT 8. Niwot CO 9. Cherokee Trail CO 10. Bishop Blanchet WA 11. Crater OR 12. Southlake Carroll TX 13. CBA NJ 14. Haddonfield Memorial NJ 15. Carmel IN 16. Wayzata MN 17. Belen Jesuit Prep FL 18. University High WV 19. Plainfield South IL 20. Corning NY 21. Dowling Catholic IA 22. St Anthony’s NY
I know that Southwest will be great but having no teams in the top 5 just makes it too bold to predict that this region will get 2 at-larges.
