Can you kindly highlight what you did...and how long for the improvement to take effect?
I feel like i'll have to start doing some kind of 400 intervals . Cheers...

no one's doing intervals?
Well I think a lot of the runners here have always done intervals in their career, so doing them for a 10k and marathon is always commonplace.
imo it depends on the type of runner ( i mean whether they are a speed / endurance type of runner)
I never improved with intervals. At times I got slower. I did better using races in place of intervals. That's not exactly normal. Lydiard had the interval phase last 4-6 weeks so I suppose you should expect to see improvement in that kind of time frame though Peter Snell told me once ran a 3:58 mile on nothing but distance work and two weeks of intervals.
Speed runners do horrible in the Marathon.
I think folks are right -- if you're in a marathon block you're going to do very few speed sessions. But, say you've run a 2:59 marathon & have a sub-19 5k. Those line up so it'll be hard to run much faster than 2:59. If you spend a year getting the 5k down to sub-18, then 2:50 is in play in your next marathon build-up.
Should be pretty obvious but you have more potential at the marathon with faster PBs. But you see people run better marathons than people with faster PBs. That's not because they're hammering a lot of shorter intervals.
400m intervals are not speed work.
If you mean hard intervals, yes also Kipchoge does. But one stand-alone training unit does not make the cut, you have to consider your complete training ...
