This rule is not for “the good of the whole.” It’s bad for the athletes, coaches, fans, meet directors and sponsors. Were “intentional” false starts a crippling problem 2003-9? Was the false start rate in DL/championship races much higher then than now? If this was a problem, I contend you could mitigate it by only allowing 1-2 false starts during a DL season before an athlete would be automatically dq’d. You know, like having a foul to give in basketball before FTs. This would stop recurrent abusers, but make it less likely any star misses out on a race because of an unintentional false start. You really think the one and done rule is integral to the integrity of the sport? I don’t care at all about Bromell as an individual athlete, I would not want any of the athletes to go out in this way. I want to see them race. Don’t you?
