Do any of you out there partake in a stregth training regime. Im sort of conflicted as to whether it is helpful or not for a distance runner.

Yeah, I run the mile. It's good to do some strength exercises and core muscle lifting. Just don't max out at all - do light weights but lots of repetitions. For example, if you can bench something like 100 (hypothetically), don't try and go over that. Do like 3x12 with 75-80 lbs. It's not about muscle mass, but rather muscle acuity and slenderness.
