yes it will be fast... if katelyn tuohy is in a championship, being tactical is not an option .. specially when shes training for 15 flat time or under
run fast stay fast end fast - and hope for your fitness to back it up
I would have picked Nichols to win the 10k had she entered, and then to have still been in the mix 2 days later in 5k. By picking just the 5k, she's like a high schooler going to Arcadia, saying I just wanna go fast!
I also don't underestimate Chelangat and Gregory, they will go with the fast pace 5k too, it will just be a tough, but not impossible comeback from 10k..
Nichols graduated high school in 2016 and started running for Ohio State in September, 2016. Ran for Ohio State from 2016-2020. She is a Covid redshirt. Started at Colorado in 2021. So I assume this is the end of her eligibility, but I could be wrong.
100% supporting Nico but I doubt he wins the 5000m due to his so-so kick. I'll predict 2nd for him, with Wildschutt or Kioko outkicking him FTW.
Nur will win the 10,000m, probably easily. Seems like he gets better the farther up in distance he goes and he's already pretty strong in the 1500 and 5000m.
I think Ky Robinson is the clear favorite in the men's 5000m. He finished second to Nur indoor, and has a huge kick. Others in contention are Beadelscomb, Young, Hicks, Hacker, Jacobs, and Fay.
I'm not really sure how you can say that Robinson is the "clear favorite." One of the favorites? Yes. Clear favorite? No. A "clear favorite, at least to me, connotes that someone is heads above and a lot better than every one else. That is not the case with Robinson.
In the PAC-12 champs, Robinson was 3rd behind Eduardo Herrera and Cole Sprout.
Here are the top 10 times of those declared for the 5000 in the West region:

So what am I missing? What is it that makes Robinson the "clear" favorite?
Well since Robinson was second indoors in the same event, and the only person who beat him is not running the 5000m. Robinson is probably the favorite outdoors.

So the fact that the two guys that beat Robinson in the PAC-12 Championship are running and between the two regions there are seven guys that have faster times than Robinson this season means that Robinson is the "clear" favorite? Additionally there is a guy named Nico Young that has a lifetime 5K PR that is significantly than Robinson's? Ok, got it. It makes perfect sense to me that he is the clear favorite.
wondering if any of the ncaa guys are going to run the 10k at us champs. Rn it seems like none of them are based on who i see at regionals and the timing of it all
You have recently seen Gear's gears at 1500, don't forget Degenero's 59 close at 1500.
As we learned last year getting thru regional is first challenge, but I agree 5k will be fast. Nichols is basically stating she wants to run fast, and 'no respect Roe' will just run faster. While there is some logic for a tactical race, I don't see it happening. Both Nichols and Tuohy love to run fast, and cu - covert and NC state - maybe 3-4 wolfpackers can help with pacing. I'm looking at the winner going 15 flat in a memorable race like the Penn 4x1500.
I hope it is a fast race because I think that will give Touhy an edge. I want her to win so bad!

Nico just ran a 13:11. If he does that or better, who can stay with him in this field? Kioko not entered, Brian Fay maybe?

maybe, but remember that was in a perfectly paced race, 13:10 pace every lap with Nico running in 4th/5th
Jakob Ingebrigtsen ran a 54 last lap to take the win and fastest time ever run in California. Abdi Nur breaks the Collegiate Record while 8 run under the Wo...
