they were the 2019 ncaa xc champions, what happened?
Arkansas is fine. They won the SEC Championship. Now a team that you should be questioning that is all distance is Syracuse. They suck.
Next year may be different as they lose several and right now noone looks ready to step in. Isabel Van Camp has developed nicely but several of their recent recruits have not for probably a variety of reasons. They also used to get in some distance transfers that really added to the program - Gear, Izzo, Jolly just to name several. Lance Harter still seems to think Thorvaldson will be very good - she got off to a tough start with injury but seems to be improving. It may be tough for them to win SEC XC next year.
i suppose they are not good at handling their new recruits, one on-going example would be sydney thorvaldson running 5k/10k double despite being slow, only thing she will earn from these are low level points, and an injury

gear, van camp, jolly, gregory, thorvaldson that is their only distance crew and couple of few runners who do not even get a chance to race

what. was. the. reason. coach.
They certainly push their athletes in SEC championships. Indoors I think Gregory ran 4 races in 2 days. Then the Britton Wilson (incredible) triple. Hopefully things work out well in the long run for the athletes. I agree asking for 10K/5K from Thorvaldson seems like a lot.

They just won the 4x1500 at Penn Relays, beating NC State and Tuohy. They set a collegiate and american record in the process. They are doing fine.
Culbreath transferring helps them because she was running slow. Now they get that scholarship back to use on someone much faster.
could have just been "nc state" and not "nc state and tuohy" as katelyn is part of that team and not running solo..anyways
i think what the other poster is saying is that, arkansas only has few runners carrying their distance program, other than the dmr/1500 relay team, there is no other runner running fast .... yo just dissed culbreath ...yoooo

Yes, Tuohy got the baton 1.5 seconds back but her team put her in position to take the lead. Tuohy took the lead and then LOST it. TUOHY LOST THE LEAD.
By definition, Arkansas is NOT only being carried by "a few" runners...they had FOUR on that relay.
Culbreath is in her 2nd year and had only run 9:56 in the 3k and 17:30 in the 5k. Those times wouldn't qualify for D3 NCAA's.
Remember - NC State is putting 18 scholarships into women's distance. Arkansas is probably only spending HALF of that because Arkansas has a FULL TRACK TEAM.
I am not even a hater, but I always thought she was mad overrated even when she was in high school. She always seemed like she was a fraud in a way and deserved nowhere near the attention she got especially she ran in a weak state for distance and ducked big races most of the time. It also hard to like someone that whenever they fall short they make up a zillion excuses like she would always do.

could have fooled me
the nice thing about running is that it is objective, she ran some big races and ran some fast times in hs
Lauren Gregory also had a slow start in college but has been solid this year and last year.

That weak state (ladies) took 4 spots in top 6 in 2017 and 2018 NXN, and 3 in top 7 in 2019. And then there are the team winners..... For guys, yes not such a strong state.

they are that weak .. so weak that their runners katelyn tuohy and mary cain owns almost all distance hs records
